Discover the joy of sewing your own wrap dress in this relaxed, confidence-boosting workshop. This timeless design features a fully lined bodice, long waist ties for an adjustable fit, and the choice of short sleeves, three-quarter sleeves, or sleeveless — so you can personalise the style to suit your wardrobe.
With its gently shaped skirt and easy wrap construction, this dress is designed to flatter without fuss. Made in a natural fibre such as linen or cotton, it’s a versatile piece you’ll love to wear year-round — casual with sandals or dressed up with boots or jewellery.
What you will learn:
  • How to read and follow a sewing pattern
  • Constructing and lining a bodice
  • Creating a clean neckline finish
  • Attaching waist ties for a secure wrap
  • Gathering and attaching a skirt
  • Options for sleeveless, short, or three-quarter length sleeves
  • Finishing techniques for a polished, professional look
Fabric recommendations:
Light- to medium-weight wovens with a soft drape, such as:
  • Linen
  • Cotton voile, poplin, or lawn
  • Chambray or light denim
  • Rayon or Tencel (only recommended for a more confident sewer as these can be a little slippery)
You’ll see our sample garments pictured in plain calico — a neutral “blank canvas” that shows the true cut, shape, and details of the design. In class, your fabric choice will give it personality, turning a base shape into something beautiful and uniquely yours.
Size Chart:
We are proud to run size-inclusive workshops and have chosen styles designed to flatter a wide range of body shapes with ease. Instead of standard size labels (and all the baggage they carry), we use our Gemstone Size System — because all bodies are beautiful.
Our styles are designed with ease — they are not meant to be tight-fitting. This makes them comfortable, versatile, and more forgiving across different body shapes. When you book in, we will send you a guide with our size chart, recommended fabrics, and quantities required (if you have any questions about sizing before you book, please contact us).
Fit Tip: If you’re between sizes and prefer your clothes roomier, go up. If you prefer a closer fit, go down. Our instructors will always help you tweak the fit in class to make sure you love the way your garment feels.
Why Join Our Sewing Workshop?
This workshop isn’t just about learning a sewing project – it’s about carving out dedicated time for yourself, building skills, and connecting with others in a beautiful, inspiring space.
We’ve designed our classes so you can:
  • Build sewing skills and confidence over multiple workshops
  • Work on garments that fit seamlessly into a capsule wardrobe
  • Enjoy the camaraderie of sewing with others
  • Use a spacious, well-equipped sewing studio (no kitchen table required!)
  • Finally get to projects you’ve always wanted to make, without the distractions of home
Our goal is to create more than a workshop – it’s a place where you can relax, focus, and feel proud of what you’ve made.
What you'll get
  • Use of our sewing machines, tools, and iron
  • Pre-prepared pattern templates in your chosen size (to trace & cut in class)
  • Step-by-step guidance from our experienced instructor
  • A delicious lunch, morning tea, and bottomless cups of tea and coffee
Knowledge required
This workshop is suitable for confident beginners who are already familiar with the basics of sewing. You should feel comfortable:
  • Threading and operating a sewing machine
  • Sewing a straight stitch
  • Tracing a pattern and cutting fabric (we’ll guide you through it, but you’ll need some confidence)
If you’re new to sewing or need a refresher, we recommend starting with our Simple Cushion Cover or Tote Bag Workshop to build your skills first.
What to bring
  • Fabric (we’ll send you a guide with recommended fabrics and quantities)
  • Matching all-purpose sewing thread
  • Essential sewing tools, including:
  • Fabric scissors (or sharp scissors suitable for cutting fabric)
  • Thread snips
  • Seam ripper (also known as a quick-un-pick)
  • Pins or sewing clips (highly recommend clips when sewing pleats)
We do have scissors and basic tools available to use in class, but if you’re planning to keep sewing at home, we recommend bringing your own—especially fabric scissors and thread snips, which are well worth having in your kit.
Don’t have everything yet? We’ll have a Sewing Starter Kit available to purchase on the day, which includes all the essentials you need.

Creating balance with creativity & connection

Made by Me Workshop is about helping people to connect with their "inner creative" and have some fun while making beautiful things from quality materials in our friendly & vibrant studio space in the heart of the inner west!
Established in 2017 after Rebecca Doyle decided to take a career break and chose to revisit her childhood love for arts & crafts. Rebecca grew up in a large family where money was tight, after school activities where mostly homegrown and usually involved a sheet of cardboard, a glue stick and some glitter! It is probably no surprise to learn that Rebecca followed a creative path to study Fashion & Textile Design at University!
After a few more decades (than Rebecca will publicly admit to) and a long and varied career in the fashion industry, Rebecca wanted to get back to creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind objects - Made By Me Workshop is the result of where this path led.
Rebecca loves that moment of pride that comes over each participant's face when they look at what they have created and say to themselves "Wow - I made this & I love it!"
Made by Me Workshop run a variety of creative workshops, hen’s parties, private parties and corporate events from their warehouse space in St Peters including Resin Art, Resin Jewellery & Mould Making, Soap Making, Terrazzo Homewares, Punch Needle, Macrame and many more.
