Saturday

10 am to 11 am - Get comfortable

Guests arrive! Catch-ups, new introductions, tours of the house and unpacking of belongings can all happen around a table of coffee, tea and fruit platters.

Once your guests have settled into your rented hens weekend house, it’s time to explore the city a little. Venture out to South Bank Parklands for a saunter along the canopied walkways, before a dip at the artificial lagoon-style swimming beach Streets Beach.

South Bank also offers licensed picnic areas, so you could bring along some bottles of champagne and some ready-made picnic baskets filled with goodies from a local deli. Or you could try one of the many eateries along Little Stanley Street or Grey Street. Once everyone is feeling refreshed, head back to the house to let everyone relax and get ready for the evening’s events, which are going to combine eating, drinking and learning new tricks!

3 pm to 5 pm - Make pizza from scratch

If your crew are food-lovers, this woodfire pizza making class at top Brisbane restaurant La Zucca Pizza is definitely a must! Not only will your crew get to roll up their sleeves and get hands-on with an authentic Italian pizza dough recipe, this event in the itinerary doubles as dinner! After the guided lesson, where you’ll learn everything you need to know about making dough from scratch, you’ll get to dine on your creation as it emerges hot out of the woodfired oven. Your choice of a glass of wine or beer is also included. And don’t forget to take home the recipe card so you can impress your friends or family (and maybe even that husband-to-be of yours) with a homemade Italian classic.

6 pm - Get crafty with hens party cocktails

Now that you’ve got some delicious handmade food in your bellies, it’s time to head back to your party pad, because you’ve got a very important guest due to arrive! Salt Meats Cheese will help your gang relax into their evening with her enthusiastic instruction on the fine art of cocktail making (and tasting is essential, naturally!). Even the teetotallers or designated drivers won’t be left out, as there are many options for mocktails to ensure everyone at this cocktail making class has a delicious drink. Now the only question is, do you turn the living room into a dancefloor or do you head out and embrace the Brisbane nightlife?

Sunday

10 am - Enjoy a relaxed morning of jewellery making

After a lazy Sunday morning filled with coffee, locally baked artisan croissants and lots of chatter, it’s time to gather around a long wooden table for grazing platters, glasses of wine and a laidback statement earring workshop (tip: in case there are any sore heads from the night before, choose a Sunday activity that is not too demanding and ideally, a mobile service that comes to you). Your crew will get to make super cute statement earrings out of bamboo with an expert jewellery maker who will be able to guide you on choosing bamboo pieces and coordinating colours, shapes and materials. You and your ladies will get to make two pairs of earrings AND get a complimentary pair of Stella and Dot studs! Which one will you choose to wear for the next chapter on your handmade hens weekend?

1 pm - Get amongst nature or learn how to paint and sip

Sunday afternoon brings the final few hours on your hens weekend, so it’s time to tailor your celebrations to the sorts of women who are in your crew. We’ve got three of the best ideas to finish your hens weekend in Brisbane.

If you really want to send your guests home with the warm-and-fuzzies, offer an afternoon trip to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Depending on where your hens weekend house is located, you might want to consider getting the Koala Express ferry there. Meet a koala, hand-feed kangaroos and enjoy the sight of wombats, platypuses, native birds and more.

Or if you’re really digging the handmade, homemade vibe and also want to enjoy your hired house for a while longer, you could include another workshop into your Sunday afternoon. A great option is a mobile paint and sip class. Have your guests tap into their creative imagination while they sip drinks, nibble snacks and create a painted canvas to take home with them.

If you have a nice garden at your rented abode, or you wish to take advantage of a beautiful waterside locale, you could reign in the help of a company like Social Picnic Co or Vintage Picnics. They can help set up a scene as lavishly styled or homely as you like while bringing along gourmet food and drinks for your last hens weekend hurrah!
