4.9 (144)

Yvette Swan expresses through bold abstract and figurative paintings a message of freedom, of life. This is completely unknown, free, boundless, empty, full, nothing, and everything. “Nothing”, not as something to be discarded, but rather the empty fullness of aliveness, of freedom. Yvette currently lives in Sydney. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of NSW, College of Fine Arts. She has worked in the film and photographic industries. Since 2000 she became a professional artist and has had over 50 solo and group exhibitions, including the Wynne Landscape Prize at AGNSW, Metro Prize, Fleurieu Peninsula Biennale Prize, and the Art Series Leeuwin Estate Collection. Yvette is included in the book “Unfinished Journeys” by Ken McGregor. Her paintings belong to private and public collections. Yvette has been a professional painter for solo and group exhibitions, art consultancy projects, art expos, and commissioned works for corporate, design, private, and art prizes.
Yvette also creates through writing; and has worked in the awareness and therapy fields with one-to-one sessions.

Yvette is a great teacher, covering a number of techniques you can use immediately to produce your own art. And it's definitely worthwhile getting the art kit so you can keep making art at home.

Yvette was responsive and accomodative to all of our request. Additionally, she was proactive in setting up the event space by arriving 1 hour prior to the set timing. The team of 19 enjoyed the team bonding event. In all, it was a great success!

She taught multiple techniques with the brushes and layering with the knife. Very easy for someone who has no prior experience in painting to have some fun!

Yvette was a very knowledgeable teacher and went through an extensive number of techniques in the first hour. I did find that the second hour was a bit rushed for our own creations as it is sometimes hard create in such a sort time. In any case the venue was great and all materials being provided was a plus.

A very relaxed two hours. I enjoyed Yvette's style, the venue was comfy and everything was on hand to make it an enjoyable experience with some nibbles as a bonus! The really small group facilitated personalised tuition! I've certainly been equipped to go and try out some different techniques and just 'have a go' to see what emerges! Thanks Yvette.

Had a fun and relaxing time at Yvette's class this morning. We were encouraged to freely explore the techniques demonstrated and the materials provided. The short guided medication at the beginning of the class was a great way to leave what's on your mind and focus on creating something from scratch. Will definitely come again.

I've never taken an art class before but would really like to explore abstract painting. During your classes is there opportunity to paint on large canvas? or will they mostly be smaller pieces of work or on paper?

The class caters for people who have not painted at all as well as people who have. I find that most students have not painted before. They enjoy the class and all can paint. I take you through the use of the tools and different techniques and then we have opportunities to create our own art. Everyone has fun and there’s no pressure. I think you will enjoy it a lot.

The half day class always seems to go so quickly so we paint on paper only. The day classes I hold we end up painting on a canvas in the afternoon. But if you would like to paint on a canvas for your last work in the half day class then you are more than welcome to pay an extra $10 on the day and I’ll have a canvas there for you. Or if you wish to bring your own canvas that’s an option too.
