I've never taken an art class before but would really like to explore abstract painting. During your classes is there opportunity to paint on large canvas? or will they mostly be smaller pieces of work or on paper?
The class caters for people who have not painted at all as well as people who have. I find that most students have not painted before. They enjoy the class and all can paint. I take you through the use of the tools and different techniques and then we have opportunities to create our own art. Everyone has fun and there’s no pressure. I think you will enjoy it a lot.
The half day class always seems to go so quickly so we paint on paper only. The day classes I hold we end up painting on a canvas in the afternoon. But if you would like to paint on a canvas for your last work in the half day class then you are more than welcome to pay an extra $10 on the day and I’ll have a canvas there for you. Or if you wish to bring your own canvas that’s an option too.

Join artist Yvette Swan for a private, in-person abstract painting class at your venue, where you'll tap into your creative flow and bring abstract works to life.You'll start by learning essential painting techniques and tools—including washes, layering, brush work, palette knives, feathering, stippling, and stamping. Then, apply these techniques to create your own abstract painting on canvas, following along with Yvette's guided demonstration.No experience necessary. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced artist looking to expand your skills, this class provides a solid foundation in techniques you can use across abstract, figurative, still life, and landscape painting. It's relaxed, fun, and all about enjoying the beauty and joy of creating art.All materials and tools are included.Please note: This class is available for private group bookings only (6+ people) at your chosen venue. Send a request with your event details to get started.An online version of this private group class is also available if you prefer a virtual option.
What you'll get
An experimental piece, learning the tools and techniques, as well as a final abstract painting on canvas.There is also an option to purchase an Art Box Add-On so you can take a kit home to immediately paint. This includes: - An A4 pad of art paper
- A set of 12 coloured 12ml paints

Knowledge required
No experience necessary. If you are experienced, this will be a great addition to your skillset.This is a wonderful class to learn a foundation of tools and techniques that you can incorporate into your creative path, not only in abstract painting but also in figurative, still life, and landscape painting. A great foundation to launch from.
What to bring
Note: A helpful Colour Mixing Chart will be emailed to you upon booking.All equipment and art materials are provided for. This includes brushes, tools, paint, paper, and a canvas. Please wear painting clothes. Please bring either old towels or a plastic drop sheet to transport your partially dried paintings in your car after the class.

I have been to a couple of art classes on ClassBento so far and Yvette is the best teacher. She started with introducting colour, how we can mix differnet colours and then move on to different techniques we can use to create abstract art on the paper. Mid-way through the class, Yvette prepared us tea and cookie for a great break. Then we started creating our own artpiece with the Canvas she provided. You can create your own or look at one of Yvette's art for inspiration. We worked by ourselves yet Yvette is around to help when we need her. It's a great balance of instruction and silence time for us to work on our own. We both love what we created that day. Abstract art itself is quite differnet than other painting too, it's very meditating and full of surprised. Highly recommnd anyone to join this class!

Yvette Swan is a Sydney-based artist who creates abstract, landscape, and figurative paintings. She enjoys using colour, line, space, and form to create from the unknown. The inspiration for Yvette’s work is the freedom and aliveness of this, of life.Yvette graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, from the University of NSW, College of Fine Arts. She has worked in the film and photographic industries. Since 2000 Yvette has been a professional artist and has had over 50 solo and group painting exhibitions, including the Wynne Landscape Prize at AGNSW, Metro Prize, Fleurieu Peninsula Biennale Prize, and the Art Series Leeuwin Estate Collection. Yvette’s work has been part of art consultancy projects, art expos, art prizes, and commissioned works for corporate, design, and private clients. Yvette’s paintings are included in the book “Unfinished Journeys” by Ken McGregor. Her paintings are held in private and public collections.
