This foundational jewellery beading class in Sydney’s Inner West is led by Christine Smalley, a local jewellery designer and passionate educator with over 25 years’ experience. Perfect for beginners, the workshop offers an accessible introduction to jewellery making, teaching the essential and foundational techniques of beaded jewellery design. It also makes the perfect gift for a creative.
The class is designed for all skill levels and is well suited to those who love wearing distinctive, handmade jewellery or is seeking a relaxed and inspiring creative experience to share with friends. Christine generously shares her industry knowledge to DIY enthusiasts ready to take their skills further—whether you’re looking to build a collection to sell, explore the possibility of launching your own jewellery brand, or simply deepen your creative practice.
Participants will learn the two most commonly used beading techniques through clear, step-by-step instruction, along with professional finishing tips and plenty of inspiration from an experienced local jewellery designer.
You'll Learn:
In this hands-on technique driven workshop, master the basic and essential beading techniques plus be shown professional finishing tips and learn about the industry and contacts.
You will learn how to string necklaces using Czech glass crystals, flex stainless steel cable wire and secure clasps. Additionally, learn how to link beads together which is the perfect skill to learn if you love wearing earrings.
Optional Extras - to help you get started
Plus order optional add ons and continue your creativity at home with your newly learnt jewellery skills. (collect at your workshop):
  • Wire 5m with crimps and clasps
  • Earring part set (5pr) brass, silver plate and/or surgical steel
  • Tools wire cutters, round nose and flat nose pliers
  • Czech glass bead mixes 'pastel' (pink, mint, lemon, baby blue), 'warm' (reds, oranges and pinks) or 'cool' (purple, blues and greens) colours
This workshop will be held at Paper Rock Scissors in Summer Hill
Easily accessible by public transport the studio is located in the redeveloped iconic Flour Mill next door to Granary Cafe and Gelato Bar.
By light rail: A one minute walk from Lewisham West light rail stop
By train: less than 10 minutes walk from Summer Hill railway station.
Make a Day of it
After your workshop, enjoy a tipple at one of the small bars or a bite to eat at one of the many cafes/restaurants on offer in Summer Hill village.
Alternatively drop by a local market and make a day of it with your besties.

Important Note
The class requires a minimum of four participants to proceed. If you're planning a group outing (hens, special milestone or birthday) or a corporate team-building activity, we can accommodate your needs through a private booking.
On balmy nights, the Summer Hill studio opens up to cool breezes, ensuring a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere.

The founder of the bespoke jewelry brand Etelage and a former jewelry and bead retailer in Newtown and Cronulla, I love sharing tips and insights on how to start a creative business, drawing from my experience in retail and brand building.
I am dedicated to creating hands-on workshops focused on jewellery making fundamentals and design tips. My goal is to foster a fun and engaging environment where participants can share ideas, be inspired, and let their imaginations run wild.
Fuelled with a passion for women to exude their notable and authentic style, my goal is to encourage all my students to awaken their creative soul and seek beauty, slow, artisan and local.
Workshops are held in a friendly and intimate studio space in the Summer Hill Flour Mill precinct. Alternatively, I offer a mobile service and can travel to your venue. (home, Airbnb or hotel for group bookings only)
