How can we help?
Q: What is Tai Chi Fan?
Tai Chi Fan is a beautiful and flowing form of Tai Chi that incorporates the use of a Chinese fan to enhance movement, focus, and energy flow. It combines traditional Tai Chi principles with graceful, expressive gestures, incorporating martial art techniques and creating a meditative and empowering practice.
Q: Do I need prior experience with Tai Chi to join?
This course is ideal for those with a basic foundation in Tai Chi. While it’s designed for beginners with some experience, it introduces the fan as both a graceful and powerful extension of your movements. Traditionally, the fan was used in public to discreetly practise sword techniques, making it both an artistic and martial tool. In this course, you'll explore how to extend and direct your qi (energy) through the fan with precision and intent—blending flow, focus, and inner strength in every movement.
Q: What kind of fan do I need?
You’ll need a Tai Chi fan – typically made of fabric and bamboo or plastic ribs – designed to open and close smoothly with a distinct sound. You can use your own fan or purchase one from us for a small fee.
Q: Can I do the course online if I don’t have much space?
Yes! Tai Chi Fan can be practiced in a small, clear area of your home. Ideally, you’ll have enough room to extend your arms fully and take a few steps in each direction.
Q: Is Tai Chi Fan physically demanding?
Not at all. Tai Chi Fan is gentle and low-impact. Movements are done slowly, with attention to posture, breath, and balance. It’s suitable for most fitness levels and can be modified to suit your needs.
Q: What are the benefits of practicing Tai Chi Fan?
Tai Chi Fan improves coordination, balance, flexibility, and focus. The rhythmic flow of movement combined with the opening and closing of the fan enhances mental clarity, relaxation, and body awareness. Many find it deeply calming and enjoyable.
Q: What if I can't keep up with the movements?
No problem at all—this course is designed for you to go at your own pace. Since all sessions are pre-recorded, you have the freedom to pause, rewind, and revisit any part of the lesson as often as you need. Progress in Tai Chi is about consistency and connection, not perfection. If you ever feel you need extra support, please reach out to the teacher who may be able to organise some private online sessions for purchase. These can help you break down specific movements in more detail or adapt the form to suit your individual needs.
Q: What's the cancellation policy?
A: Free to cancel or reschedule up until 3 days before the event
Q: How long does the class run for, and what's the price?
A: 10 x 50 mins, $300 per guest
