Beginner's Wheel Throwing Pottery Course

Learn wheel throwing, trimming and ceramic glazing over three classes

3 x 2 hours Class size 1 to 10 (public classes), 6 to 30

label $65 - $195 (or 4 payments of $16 - $49 Afterpay)
($65 for Private (tableware), $70 for Private (glazing), $99 for Private (torso vase), $99 for Private (make & decorate), $195 for Public class (3 sessions))

In this series of three classes, you'll learn wheel throwing, trimming, and glazing basic cylinders. The classes are relaxed and perfect for beginners - you won't feel rushed at all.

You'll get detailed demonstrations, and lots of feedback wherever you need it; the classes are deliberately kept small so that you get enough attention from the teacher.

The finished (fired) pottery you make will be yours to keep. You'll create cylindrical ceramics, which could be any of the following (or even something different - let your imagination run wild!):

  • Bowls and plates
  • Mugs and cups
  • Stationary/cutlery holders
  • Planters or vases
  • Food bowl for your pet
  • Candle holder

Most students will create three different objects. Will yours be elegant? A bit crazy? Clever? Exploring themes from your childhood or your travels? Something unexpected? We can't wait to see what you'll make.

Each class is two hours long, and you'll enjoy one class per week, for three weeks - this allows enough time for drying and firing your pieces in between the classes. Note that you must attend the same time slot for the subsequent two weeks. E.g. if your first class is on 1st Jan, your second must be on 8th Jan, and your third must be 15th Jan. This is is because the students you'll be learning with in each workshop will all be at the same learning stage as you. $195 covers all three classes in the series.

Convenient free two-hour street parking on Hayberry Street and in Woolworths across the street from the studio.

This pottery class is also great for events like hens or corporate outings. Just get in touch to organise (max of up to 30 students, or 22 students if using our pottery wheels). You can BYO food and drink if you like to these private events. Some options for a one-off group event:

Taste of making tableware, $65/person, 2 hours

Your group can spend 2 hours wheel throwing or handbuilding pottery. Usually we recycle pottery made in this workshops, but if anyone in your group falls in love with the pieces they have made, that person can either sign up for two additional classes to finish their pieces or we can finish them for you for extra $25/piece.

Glaze and take home, $70/person, 2 hours

Your group can spend 2 hours glazing and decorating 2 premade pieces per person and these pieces can be picked up from the studio after they are fired. You will be able to choose 2 pots from variety of forms such as bowls, plates, cups, animal figurines, etc.

Handbuilding torso vase, $90/person, 2 hours

Your group will learn how to build a vase with coils and decorate it. Each participant will make a vase and decorate it. These vases weill be glazed and fired for you, and can be picked up in a few weeks after your workshop.

Make and decorate $99/person, 2 hours

Your group will spend the first hour of the 2 hours workshop either wheel throwing or handbuilding with clay and pieces made in this part of the workshop will get recycled. The second hour your group will be decorating and glazing two PREMADE pieces per person. There will be various bowls, plates, cups and figurines to choose from. Pottery decorated by your group can be picked up after firing, so each participant gets to take home 2 pieces they decorated during the workshop.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Great value for money. Got straight into it without unnecessary details. I'm often frustrated with the slow pace of beginners classes but this one was perfect.

Our teacher is quite friendly and patient! Always remind me put down ur elbows hahahahha. And the venue is good as well. Not a big place but be very organised. The first class to make three bowl like potteries, for me is not easy but is a great beginning!

The teacher was very patient, accommodating and encouraging. The space was relaxed and had the right tools which meant we were able to focus on getting into the actual pottery lesson. I'd definitely recommend to other friends and am looking forward to continuing on with my bowl making!

It has been really fun, working with the clay was not my second nature but thr teacher has been extremly patient. The venue is a walking distance from home, spacious and relaxing. I am looking forward to next two classes and see the final products.

Yegana was very attentive and accommodating. Her instructions were very clear and at a good pace to follow. This was also combined with visual demonstrations which accommodated all types of learners.
The venue is convenient and close to public transport. The materials were good and easy to work with and all tools were provided. The class was very informative and good length for weekly consecutive sessions. I learned a lot and it was a great crash course. I learned enough to take away and refine my skills with practice. The class size was small and intimate and ensured you did not get lost or forgotten about. I also loved the succulents and orchids that adorned the windows in the studio! Added charm and inspiration. Thank you!

Fun class and great atmosphere and vibe. As a beginner I probably needed a little more hands on coaching as I found it quite difficult but I'm sure with more practice I'll get there.

It was my first time doing pottery and it’s a really good experience. I loved it the way my teacher ( Jioana) explained the each steps from the starting. I still need to learn more which can only gain by experience and more practice. I definitely recommend my friends to try upcoming class sessions.

Just did the first class of three, the teacher was excellent. She provided clear instructions and demonstrations for each step of the process, and gave us plenty of room to practice but was quick to step in as soon as anyone needed help. Highly recommended.

Had a ceramic's painting class for a Hen's Night. Yegana was so welcoming and helpful. She provided a space for us to set up nibblies and drinks early, explained the painting and glazing process and then let us get to work. We all had such a wonderful time. The venue was easy to find. The Bride enjoyed the class immensely. Top quality.

Nice studio with a small group of beginners enabling the instructor to provide regular support & technique advice. The studio was being used by a nice number of others who were at differing stages of experience adding to a nice vibe. Instructor has a lovely manner about her, provides great instructions, guidance & assistance.
