Welcome to Blooming Cakes! I am Babette Yu a passionate cake decorator looking to share my love of beautifully designed buttercream icing.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Performance and Sociology from the University of Sydney. After four years of academic study, I realised I am more creative with handcraft, much like my parents. I am also passionate about making my life and others around me a little bit sweeter!
In 2007, I moved to Sydney from Shanghai, China. While studying, I worked for Barista Basics Coffee Academy as a barista trainer. Thanks to this great company and the people I worked for, I have experienced making art out of food and drinks.
From 2012 to 2013, I lived in Paris so I could learn patisserie trade secrets from the ultimate professionals. Having successfully completed the Patisserie Diploma from Le Cordon Bleu Paris, I broadened my mindset and uncovered a deep desire to continue on my baking journey.
In 2017 I attended a buttercream cake decoration advanced program in South Korea. Once I returned to Sydney, I focused on my cake decorating business, Blooming Cakes. I believe it's the perfect way to combine all my experience and knowledge so I can share and connect with you!

I had a great time with Babbet, she mad it seam very easy and very patient with us! totally enjoyed it and highly recommended this course!
Only one negative is having to pay extra for display box, need to make clear to bring a cake box with you if not wanting to buy one, it was the only way to be able to take them hm! Lee-Lin

Venue was in a relaxed private home, running a business, but the class was incredibly informative. I learned more than I have learned in more professional evironments. Babette was a great teacher. Can’t wait to practice my new skills!

I had a great day!Babette was extremely Knowledgeable and I picked up so many new tips from her. I was concerned that she would cut the class time as I was the only student; but no, it was the full day with minute to minute instructions. I was very pleased and will recommend her highly. I will be very interested in other courses she runs.

Babette was great, she explained things so well and walked us through each technique without overloading us with too much information at once. Plenty of time to practice and really fun!

Babette is a wonderful teacher, she walked us through step-by-step to help us create some pretty impressive looking cupcakes! Everything we needed was provided, and the group were all friendly and supportive of each other.
I would definitely recommend this course for anyone interested in creating gorgeous and delicious cupcakes.

Absolutely loved the Blooming Cakes class run by Babette. She was an amazing teacher - very fun and easy going and so good at explaining and helping us to understand how exactly to pipe. Had a fantastic time at her class and well worth the price. She provided all the necessary materials and they were clean and easy to use. Her explanations were easy to understand and her demonstrations were clear.
