In this class, you will be guided through the basic buttercream piping process by expert cake decorator Babette. You will learn how to make your own buttercream from scratch using typical kitchen tools and get creative as you learn how to mix colours to create your favourite shades.

Get hands-on and practice your new skills as you create unique flower designs on six mini cupcakes. Babette will give you some special tips to create a range of flowers, from roses to camellias and much more!

Welcome to Blooming Cakes! I am Babette Yu a passionate cake decorator looking to share my love of beautifully designed buttercream icing.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Performance and Sociology from the University of Sydney. After four years of academic study, I realised I am more creative with handcraft, much like my parents. I am also passionate about making my life and others around me a little bit sweeter!

In 2007, I moved to Sydney from Shanghai, China. While studying, I worked for Barista Basics Coffee Academy as a barista trainer. Thanks to this great company and the people I worked for, I have experienced making art out of food and drinks.

From 2012 to 2013, I lived in Paris so I could learn patisserie trade secrets from the ultimate professionals. Having successfully completed the Patisserie Diploma from Le Cordon Bleu Paris, I broadened my mindset and uncovered a deep desire to continue on my baking journey.

In 2017 I attended a buttercream cake decoration advanced program in South Korea. Once I returned to Sydney, I focused on my cake decorating business, Blooming Cakes. I believe it's the perfect way to combine all my experience and knowledge so I can share and connect with you!
