4 x 2.5 hours Class size 1 to 8 guests

$900 - $990 ($900 for Concession; $990 for Adult. $380 per class surcharge applies for private classes)

This four-week Sydney course is designed to guide both beginners and returning students through a progressive journey into the art of glassworking. Each session (running for 2.5 hours including 20 minutes kiln time) introduces a new set of techniques and projects, balancing creative exploration with skills development. Whether you are completely new to glass or looking to refine and expand your practice, this series offers a structured yet flexible path to strengthen your craft.
Week 1 – Foundations of Flameworking & Pendants
We begin with the essentials of working solid glass in the flame—shaping, stretching, applying and mixing colour. Students will practice precision heat control and form while experimenting with free-shaping small pieces. The session also covers the techniques for creating glass pendants and solid hanging ornaments.
Week 2 – Sculptural Techniques: Animal Making
This week focuses on controlled sculpting with solid glass. Through the creation of miniature animals and figurines, students will refine their shaping skills, practice balance and symmetry, and learn how to capture character and form in solid glasswork.
Week 3 – Introduction to Glassblowing: Small Vessels
Moving from solid to hollow forms, students will begin glassblowing. The focus will be on mastering the turning technique and breathwork for controlled expansion. Students will also learn how to decorate their spindles and shape them into small blown vessels such as bottles, shot glasses, ornaments/baubles, drip feeders or bud vases.
Week 4 – Advanced Project: Goblets, Port Glasses & Eggcups
The final session challenges students with more complex projects, combining both blown and solid work. Techniques for joining, shaping stems, and forming small functional glassware will be introduced. Students will create small cups with handles, eggcups, or port wine glasses, consolidating the skills developed over the course.
  • Suitable for absolute beginners or those with prior experience looking to refine technique.
  • Each week builds progressively in complexity and precision.
  • Every student will leave with a set of unique glass creations and an expanded skillset.
