Mandala Plate Making Pottery Class

Mindful shaping and decorating

1 hour

Class size 1 to 10 (public classes), 4 to 20

$45 - $50 ($50 per guest when you book for 1 guest, $45/guest for 2+ guests) (Afterpay & PayPal Pay in 4 available)

This workshop offers a calm and creative space to slow down and enjoy the process of freeform pottery. Through step-by-step guidance, you will transform a lump of clay into an organically formed plate with a mandala design.
Mandalas have a long history in several cultural and spiritual traditions. In this class, they are used as a source of artistic inspiration for mindful making, with respect for the cultural origins of these patterns.
Bettina will demonstrate hand-building and decorating techniques and offer gentle guidance throughout the workshop. You will work with 300 g of clay, which will create a plate approximately 15–20 cm in diameter. Once your plate has been formed, you will use coloured liquid clay to paint a mandala design with the help of a stencil. A wide range of mandala stencils and colours will be available, allowing you to create a design that reflects your own style.
At the end of the workshop, you will leave your piece for glazing and kiln-firing. Your finished plate will be ready for collection approximately three weeks after the class. Your booking includes glazing and kiln-firing for one piece per person.

I'm a somatic clay therapist offering mindfulness-based pottery classes and one-on-one therapy sessions in a calm and welcoming studio.
Before finding my way to clay, I spent several years in academia, completing a PhD in psychology and teaching at university. I began working with clay as a hobby, and over time, what started as a personal mindfulness practice evolved into a professional calling, leading me to train as a Clay Field® therapist.
I started Wheelfulness in 2019, and since then it has become known for its personalised approach that cultivates somatic mindfulness at the pottery wheel. Now, from my new studio in Matraville, I continue to offer small-group pottery classes alongside one-on-one clay therapy sessions.
