Basket Weaving Kit
Introducing our Aboriginal Basket weaving starter kit, designed to bring the ancient art of weaving into your home. Our kits provide all the materials you need to make your own small basket, and come complete with step-by-step instructions to guide you through the process.
But weaving is more than just a craft - it's a powerful form of healing that can help you slow down, focus your mind, and reconnect with your creativity. When you weave, you use your hands in a mindful and deliberate way, creating a rhythmic and meditative experience that can reduce stress and promote relaxation.
Our kits use natural raffia and coloured raffia, traditional materials used by Indigenous weavers for generations. By using these materials, you'll not only learn a new skill but also connect with a rich cultural history.
With our starter kit, you'll have everything you need to start weaving right away. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced weaver, you'll find the process of creating your own basket to be rewarding and fulfilling. So why not slow down, take some time for yourself, and start weaving today?

  • 5/5 from Aimee Turner, attended Mar 2025: This was really easy to make with plenty of materials and everything i needed except for the scissors. At the completion of my basket, i still have enough material left over that i could make another. My only request would be that instructions be provided for how to start a basket on my own for a subsequent basket (the kit comes prestarted). But if you only ever wanted to make the one basket, then this is perfect
  • 5/5 from Max Taylor, attended Nov 2024: Incredible kit to learn a unique skill!
  • 4/5 from Kerry Stringer, attended Oct 2024: Once I worked out how to do it, I became increasingly mesmerised and the natural materials were wonderful to work with. Can't wait to try something like this again and build on the skill that I started to make.

  • 4/5 from Andrea Pelton, attended Jun 2024: Always wanted to try basket weaving. Lots of fun and very relaxing. A link to a video tutorial of instructions would be helpful, wording was difficult to follow. Think it turned out ok
  • 5/5 from Jodi Bailey, attended May 2024: I love how simple Ngumpie Weaving make this. I have never weaved a basket before and this kit is so easy to use and my basket is coming along nicely. The customer service was also wonderful.

I'm Tegan, a proud member of the Barkindtji tribe originating from Coomealla, Lake Victoria and the Mungo regions from my mother's ancestors. I also belong to the Yorta Yorta and Dhudaroah tribes, originating from the Shepparton area from my father’s ancestors.
"Ngumpie" in Barkindtji means "beautiful" – and this is what my Nanna Shirl used to call me when I was younger.
Nan is no longer with us, so I knew my business name had to be this: Ngumpie, pronounced "Numbpie".
Alongside large-scale commissioned artworks, Ngumpie has appeared in Elle, Country Style, Marie Claire and Living Colour Magazine.
Come and learn about the ancestory tradition of basket weaving in my studio in Narrabeen.
