Turn an ordinary ceramic mug into a colourful, personalised work of art! In this fun, hands-on workshop, participants will decorate a ceramic mug using paperclay creations, embellishments, bling, and decorative elements to create a mug that is completely their own. This is more than just decorating a mug — it is an opportunity to experiment with 3D textures, shapes, colours, and embellishments while developing creative confidence and having fun.
No previous art or craft experience is needed. There is no right or wrong design — participants can let their imagination take over!
What you’ll do
  • Start with a plain ceramic mug as their creative canvas
  • Create or shape paperclay elements to add dimension and texture
  • Experiment with different decorative elements and embellishments
  • Add bling, sparkle, and decorative details to personalise their mug
  • Combine colours, textures, and 3D elements to create a unique finished design
  • Take their decorated creation home at the end of the workshop

Who is it for?
Suitable for ages 8+ through to adults. Families are welcome to craft together! Younger children are welcome to participate, but a parent or responsible adult must remain with and supervise younger children throughout the workshop.

My love of craft started many years ago, and over the past 30+ years it has grown into both a business and a way of connecting with people. I founded Zyneri, a creative business specialising in craft supplies, and have spent decades exploring different materials, techniques and ways to make creativity accessible to everyone.
For more than 15 years, I have been running craft workshops and creative activations at craft fairs, events and community settings across Australia and New Zealand. One of the things I have learned along the way is that you don't need to be an experienced artist to create something you can be proud of.
That belief is at the heart of Zyneri Creative Lab. I love taking materials that might seem intimidating or unfamiliar and turning them into fun, achievable creative experiences. Whether it's mixed media, fabric, embellishment, paper crafts, moulding or something completely new, I want people to experiment, play and enjoy the process rather than worry about creating something "perfect".
Why I Love Teaching
The best part of teaching is seeing the moment when someone says, "I didn't think I could do that!"
I particularly enjoy working with people who don't consider themselves creative. My workshops are designed to be welcoming and hands-on, with plenty of room for individual expression. I don't believe everyone has to make the same thing. I provide the materials, ideas and guidance, and then encourage each person to make the project their own.
For me, creativity is not just about the finished product. It's about having fun, learning something new, switching off from everyday life and leaving with the satisfaction of having made something yourself.
A Little More About Me
My background is a little unusual because creativity, retail, business and events have all come together throughout my career. Alongside running my own businesses for more than three decades, I completed a Diploma of Event Management through TAFE NSW and have worked across the events and placemaking space.
I've also had the opportunity to work with large groups at public events and craft fairs, so I'm very comfortable creating experiences that work for beginners, families, community groups and corporate teams.
Something people may not realise about craft is just how many possibilities there are. A simple piece of fabric, a stencil, a mould, some paper or a handful of embellishments can become something completely different depending on the imagination of the person using it. That's what keeps me excited about crafting after all these years.
Today, through Zyneri Creative Lab, my goal is simple: to make creativity accessible, enjoyable and memorable — one creation at a time.
