In this specialty soap-making workshop, you’ll explore the fascinating world of natural colour in cold process soap making using botanicals, plant powders and infused oils.
Working with ingredients such as indigo, annatto and rhubarb root, you’ll discover how plants can create surprisingly rich and beautiful colours in handmade soap — without synthetic dyes or pigments. Through layering techniques and hands-on experimentation, you’ll learn how different preparation methods and the soap’s natural pH can dramatically influence the final result.
This workshop is inspired by the same slow, thoughtful processes found in natural fabric dyeing and botanical crafts, making it perfect for anyone drawn to earthy colour palettes, creative experimentation and plant-based making.
Whether you’re new to soap making or returning to expand your skills, this workshop offers a beautiful and rewarding introduction to the magic of botanical colour.
What you will make:
You’ll make a full loaf of Botanically Dyed Soap, which cuts into 8 to 10 luxury bars.
What you will learn:
* How to safely make cold process soap from scratch
* How botanical colourants behave in soap making
* The difference between infused oils and powdered botanicals added at trace
* How pH influences natural colours in cold process soap
* Techniques for creating beautifully layered soap designs
* Tips for working with natural ingredients to achieve clean, vibrant results
* How to de-mould, cut, cure and store your soap
Returning Makers – Bring Back Your Mould:
All participants receive a reusable silicone mould to keep and reuse at future soap workshops.
Returning guests are welcome to bring their mould back and book using our Refill Workshop option — a discounted ticket available to repeat attendees. It’s a small way to reduce waste while encouraging continued making and experimentation with new recipes.

Cold process soap making involves working with lye (caustic soda), a strong alkaline substance that requires careful handling and attention. Safety equipment is provided and we will guide you carefully throughout the workshop.
This workshop is not suitable for children under 16 years of age.
Participants aged 16–17 must attend with a participating adult also booked into the workshop.
What to bring
You will be taking your soap home with you. Please bring a towel to wrap it in and a bag or box to carry it home.
For safety we recommend wearing:
* Long sleeves
* Long pants
* Enclosed shoes
Safety note: Lye is an incredibly strong chemical that requires extreme caution. Because of this, we recommend wearing a long-sleeved shirt, pants, and enclosed shoes. Please don't worry; we will teach you how to handle it safely so you won't have any issues.

Creating balance with creativity & connection

Made by Me Workshop is about helping people to connect with their "inner creative" and have some fun while making beautiful things from quality materials in our friendly & vibrant studio space in the heart of the inner west!
Established in 2017 after Rebecca Doyle decided to take a career break and chose to revisit her childhood love for arts & crafts. Rebecca grew up in a large family where money was tight, after school activities where mostly homegrown and usually involved a sheet of cardboard, a glue stick and some glitter! It is probably no surprise to learn that Rebecca followed a creative path to study Fashion & Textile Design at University!
After a few more decades (than Rebecca will publicly admit to) and a long and varied career in the fashion industry, Rebecca wanted to get back to creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind objects - Made By Me Workshop is the result of where this path led.
Rebecca loves that moment of pride that comes over each participant's face when they look at what they have created and say to themselves "Wow - I made this & I love it!"
Made by Me Workshop run a variety of creative workshops, hen’s parties, private parties and corporate events from their warehouse space in St Peters including Resin Art, Resin Jewellery & Mould Making, Soap Making, Terrazzo Homewares, Punch Needle, Macrame and many more.
