Mai was so patient and kind and really took the time to explain and show us the basics of glass bead making. The studio was also well lit and very tidy/clean. The 2.5 hours absolutely flew by! We each managed to make 5 beads and then had the time to choose finishings to display our beads afterwards. All on all, an absolutely delightful way to spend a Saturday and will definitely be back for more classes with Mai!

She's obviously worked with glass for a long, long time and I felt very safe despite working with open flames and hot glass. She was very encouraging when we didn't get it quite right and the workshop itself was well supplied and comfortable. Parking was also super easy!

Originally from Japan and now based in Sydney, Mai Oshima is a glass artist, designer and teacher with over 20 years of experience working with glass.Mai holds a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts (Glass) from Japan and is a qualified art teacher. Before moving to Australia, she taught glassblowing, flameworking and kiln-forming in Japan, where she developed a passion for helping people discover the creativity and joy of working with glass.Inspired by the colours and beauty of Sydney's Northern Beaches, Mai creates handcrafted glass jewellery and artworks using a range of glass techniques. She loves sharing her knowledge in a relaxed, supportive environment where beginners feel comfortable exploring a new skill and experienced makers can continue to grow.Whether you're making your very first glass bead or creating your own stained glass piece, Mai's workshops are designed to be creative, hands-on and enjoyable.
