 From wax to metal

From Wax to Metal

3 weeks later, Your creation is cast into metal, ready to wear.

You’ll start with a solid block of jeweller's wax and slowly carve, file and shape it until it becomes your own ring. Once you’re happy with the shape, you will use fire to smooth the surface, add texture and bring out the final details.
At the end of the workshop, your teacher will take your wax ring to be professionally cast in the metal of your choice (brass, sterling silver or gold). Around two weeks later, your finished metal ring will be ready for you to wear.
Note: Casting and metal costs are not included in the workshop price. Most rings cost approximately $60-$160 depending on your chosen metal and the weight of your ring. Gold is quoted separately based on weight.

I’m Alfie, the founder of Haina, a handmade jewellery brand inspired by organic shapes, imperfections, and the idea that no two pieces should feel exactly the same. I started working with jewellery through Haina, designing rings and learning the process behind turning an idea into a finished piece. Alchemy was born from wanting to share that process with other people in a way that felt relaxed, social, and accessible - even if you’ve never made anything before. What I love most about teaching is seeing everyone start with the same piece of wax and finish with something completely different. There’s no right or wrong way to make your ring, and that’s usually where the best pieces come from. I’ve now hosted Alchemy workshops for private groups, birthdays, and corporate teams around Sydney, and I still love seeing what people come up with every session. My workshops are less about making something perfect and more about slowing down, using your hands, having a drink, meeting people, and creating something that’s completely your own.
