Turn one of your old football jerseys into a one-of-a-kind patchwork tote bag in this beginner-friendly sewing workshop. Guided step-by-step, you’ll cut, piece, and stitch your own jersey into a functional keepsake you can carry to games, training, and everyday life. You bring along a jersey that you want to re-work, and I'll provide the rest, plus a custom "made by" tag and light refreshments.
If you don't have a jersey of your own that you want to use, let me know as I have a few that I've sourced second hand, available for purchase
Celebrate the Women’s Asian Cup with a creative, hands-on sewing experience that combines football, sustainability, and memory-making.
This workshop is beginner-friendly and guided step-by-step, making it perfect for those who are new to sewing as well as those looking for a relaxed, creative session.
In this class, we'll use guides to map out the sections of the jersey that we want to include. These pieces are then sewn together. You'll leave with a fully made tote bag, and a handful of new skills.
To make your piece extra special, you’ll also sew in a custom embroidered “made by your name” tag.
All sewing machines, tools, and materials are provided (excluding the actual jersey), along with some light nibbles so you can relax and enjoy the process.
What you'll get
  • A guided, beginner-friendly sewing workshop
  • A one-of-a-kind patchwork tote bag made from a re-worked Matildas jersey
  • All materials, tools, and sewing machines to use during the workshop (excluding the jersey itself)
  • Hands-on support and basic sewing skills in a small class setting
Knowledge required
No previous experience is needed; it's perfect for beginners.
What to bring
A jersey that you want to re-work - maybe one that you've outgrown, that has a small stain or hole, or even a sentimental one that you want to 'use' in a different way!
If you don't have a jersey to use, get in touch before the class and I'll send photos and prices of the ones I currently have (usually between $20-$50).

FAQ

What If I don't have a jersey that I am willing to chop up?
No worries, you can get in touch with me prior to the class and I can send photos and prices of the ones I have available for purchase. I source them on marketplace and depop so am able to sell these for those who don't already have a jersey ready to go. They are usually between $20-$60.

Hi! I'm Caitie.
I started Summed Up Threads with the intention to make and sell embroidered keepsakes and whilst I loved the process of making and selling, I quickly realized that it was missing one key thing that I love - PEOPLE!
I pulled together a group of friends to run a 'trial workshop' and the rest is history! Now I take my machine all over Sydney (and beyond), offering workshops at both venues and inside your home.
I feel so passionately that creating something with your own two hands is so empowering, and the sense of accomplishment you feel when you take a step back and look at your creation is so special.
In my workshops, you’ll learn simple techniques while making something truly personal, from hand-sewn Santa sacks to quilted kindle covers.
My classes are designed to be fun, welcoming, and beginner-friendly, with everything you need provided. Think 'paint and sip' vibes, rather than a super technical sewing class. I hope you'll leave with a newly found confidence, ready to tackle the sewing machine you've had hidden in the back of your wardrobe for years.
I'm based in the lower Blue Mountains (about an hour west of Sydney) but love to travel all over the place, bringing my machines to you. Get in touch if you'd like to enquire about a private class - maybe for book club this month you can get together and make a book sleeve? Maybe you want to get your mothers group together to make something for your baby's first birthday!? I'd love to be a part of it!
