Sgrafitto: Learn the art of sgraffito

Sgrafitto: Learn the Art of Sgraffito

Students will learn the art of sgrafitto. We will start by introducing the wonderful technique sgrafito.

Then students will make a tile or coaster to practice the technique of sgrafito. They will learn how to use sgraffito carving tools to create their your own expressive designs inspired by historical and contemporary examples.

Students will also learn how to create a functional piece using moulds. They will make a plate or bowl and choose a design where they can carve their design by scratching through a surface of slip to reveal the contrasting colours beneath.

Students will be encouraged to explore various designs and are welcome to come along with some preliminary design ideas. They will receive step by step guidance from their teacher to create an amazing sgrafito plate.

Students will have fun experimenting with different mark making and decorative techniques and learn about ceramic artists.

Students will have fun exploring hand building techniques to create a magnificent bird sculpture. Choose your favourite bird to model in clay and create a nest.

Pottery Club (Ages 8 - 17)
Get ready to get muddy and make magic!
Our hands-on pottery club runs from 9:30am–2:30pm and is packed with clay, creativity, fun, and games. Kids will learn hand-building and decorative techniques and paint their creations while exploring their artistic side in a supportive, playful environment.
Our pottery club offers a full day of artistic exploration with clay. Your children will explore functional pots and various decorative techniques. Children will build confidence, friendships, learn new skills, and bring home handmade pottery they’re proud of—all in a supportive, encouraging studio setting.
In this class, students will create 2-3 hand-built projects. In between creating, your children will have a break for lunch and enjoy good old-fashioned games.
Please pack morning tea and lunch and bring a water bottle, hat, apron, and wear covered shoes.
This class is perfect for beginners and experienced young artists alike—no experience needed, just imagination! All materials included. Come make something amazing! Spaces are limited.

We require a minimum number of enrolments to run the class. In the event that the class does not reach minimum numbers, we will cancel and reschedule your booking.
We will glaze and fire your artwork in approximately 4 to 6 weeks. Once they are ready, we will contact you to let you know suitable times for collection. We cannot store artworks for longer than 6 months due to space limitations. After this time, all uncollected works will be donated.
The utmost care will always be taken with your precious artworks. Occasionally, ceramics crack or break in the firing process. We cannot accept liability under these circumstances.
What you'll get
All materials and tools are provided, including clay, glazing, and firing. Beginner-friendly, step-by-step guidance and support are offered. Take home beautiful glazed ceramics in approximately 4-6 weeks.

Old clothes, a hat, enclosed shoes, a water bottle, lunch, and an apron are recommended.
