Clay Hand Building Workshop

Learn how to make hand building ceramics and sip rosé in Balmain!

2 hours Class size 6 to 10     label $95

Come along and try hand-building with clay in this pottery workshop in inner west Balmain, Sydney!

Gather your gal pals, friends or family or come on your own and meet new like-minded people. You will enjoy a fun two hours of hand-building clay, making, creating, relaxing and sipping. This is the perfect opportunity to learn the fundamentals of clay building.

You will learn how to make basic forms using the pinching and press technique. This is an experience for everyone, no artistic experience is required.

The workshop is designed as an opportunity to create with clay, a bit of a taste of the experience of working with ceramics. We will fire and glaze two pieces you create, included in the class cost.

If you would like an additional piece you create during the class fired and glazed in our house white glaze, we will fire and glaze for $20 for each additional piece extra. The end product will be food safe and dishwasher proof.

Firing and glazing take roughly four weeks, you will be emailed to collect when ready for collection.

Note: we keep work for six weeks only, if not collected.

Group bookings for hens parties, birthdays and other occasions are available by arrangement (maximum of eight people while social distancing).

Excellent class for my daughter (12) and I. Heather is a great teacher, small class size and lovely environment.

The class was better than I had expected. It was a surprise for my partner who has been keen to get back into artistry, and a pottery class was a great way to do that. We both thoroughly enjoyed the class, the teaching method, the inclusivity with the other attendees, the pace, the location…there was nothing we could fault. We are both very grateful for Heather being so patient with us and making it a fun environment.

My friend and I had a wonderful evening playing with clay. Heather is a warm, highly professional and generous teacher. There were plenty of options of what to make and space to explore our own creative style. Definitely good value for money and lots of fun. STRONGLY recommended

My friend and I booked a class with Heather on 12/12. From the moment we stepped in, we immediately felt at home. We sipped moscato and shared life stories with Heather while we waited for the last guest to arrive. It’s easy to see that Heather’s workshop/ store is more than just a space. The last guest has known Heather for many years and so while we were making our clay pieces, my friend and I felt part of the community through the stories they were sharing. It felt like turning up to your favourite aunt’s place to do something crafty and beautiful together while catching up on life. It was such a light hearted and fun experience; a real birthday treat for me!

I wouldn’t say I learned many technical skills, but I absolutely recommend Heather’s class if you’re up for a fun and relaxed afternoon/ evening of craft with friends (and friends-to-be). We did make some beautiful pieces that we are so proud of though. Heather even sent us off with a block of complimentary clay so we can continue dabbling in this art form! Can’t wait to get our pieces back. Thanks again for a wonderful afternoon of great fun and laughter, Heather!
