100/10 I would highly highly recommend this workshop to anyone – whether they are a beginner, or this is their first time getting crafty. I booked a session for 15 students as part of a university program. It was such a hit that I ended up buying more rug and tote making kits after the session as other students expressed interest in engaging in this crafty activity. Our facilitator, Nakisah, went above and beyond for the session by turning up before the session with loads of time to spare, providing snacks that were inclusive of students’ dietary requirements, actively engaging with the students throughout the session as well as bringing a happy, uplifting vibe that made you want to stay all day and make rugs. Nakisah provided the students’ requested rug and tote options as well as brought a wide range of other options so that the students had the opportunity to change their mind on their rug or tote design if desired. The process of booking, liaising, and paying for the session was super easy and stress-free. Nakisah also provided the students with left-over snacks from the day which was incredibly thoughtful. An added bonus was that Nakisah left the space immaculate following the conclusion of the session. Working with a facilitator that genuinely cares about their job and makes the workshop run as smoothly as possible is exactly what you want and Nakisah didn’t disappoint.

Nakidah was such an awesome instructor. Hook latching was made so easy by her enthusiasm and constant help. We shared some funny stories and hobbies with each other and she set out tables and chairs beautifully for us! We loved her detail to attention! Thankyou so so much!

Rug Making Class for Beginners review by Tina Le - Sydney

It was a very relaxing and beautiful outdoor venue, under the trees, cool drinks and light snacks. The lesson flew by in no time at all, and was supported with straight forward instructions, practical support, equipment and a wealth of information and inspirational examples to aspire to. The rug making kit was very accessible and provided everything needed to confidently complete the piece at my leisure. I will definitely be referring friends and family for this very positive and satisfying learning experience. Belinda

A lovely set-up in an outdoor courtyard. The kit provided was well presented and instructions were easy to follow. There was also a link provided to video instructions. The tutor was very knowledgeable about all sorts of textiles and very interesting to listen to. With clear instructions, we were able to pick up the technique quickly. I did the class with my daughter and we both found it very relaxing and enjoyable. We were also served a variety of different snacks and beverages. Overall it was a most enjoyable experience and I would highly recommend it.

Hi Nakisah,
I really enjoyed your class. You put so much thought into planning it. I’d like to share some ideas with you. The ladies in the class were finding it difficult to see what you were doing. It was a great idea to change to using the black thread. Maybe if you did a mockup piece of Aida Cloth on a large scale and demonstrated with that then it would be easier to see. You could use cardboard with holes in it. In the past when I’ve ever needed lots of hole, I’ve made them by and used the electric drill or even the old hand drill. It saves time. Cereal packets are a wonderful supply of cardboard. Thick wool would easily be seen in your demonstration.
In my craft group I learned not so long ago when using stranded cotton to separate each thread and replaces them. The theory is that it will give a flatter more even look.
Another thing I learned was before I started to run a coloured thread down the centre of the fabric and across the midline. This gave a true centre and can be followed throughout the project. It’s easy to pull out last.
A problem I’ve found was that when I did my practice stitches and pulled them out they left a mark. Next time I think I’ll do it closer to the edge.
In the past I’ve avoided using metallic thread because it has controlled me. Thanks for that wonderful tip.
Nakisah, you should be really proud of what you did today. I had a wonderful two hours with you and a group of ladies being happy together. Good on you. A Big thank you.
