This short story writing class is great for beginners! Your instructor will teach you valuable skills to craft your memories into a short and true story. This fun class will allow you to embrace moments from your life and consider themes such as your family, your relationship, or greatest passions.
At the end of the one-day writing course, you will know how to start writing short creative nonfiction based on your own life.
You will begin with looking at short creative nonfiction by significant authors including Tim Winton, Helen Garner and David Sedaris, and discussing the range of themes that emerge from their works. You will then move into brainstorming your own work and exploring techniques and styles that characterise engaging works of creative nonfiction.
After attending the writing course you will have:
  • Gained greater knowledge of creative nonfiction works
  • Learned how to look at everyday life as an opportunity for stories
  • An understanding of the techniques and styles that make engaging writing
  • Learned how to start writing your own creative nonfiction based on your own life

What you'll get

About Elizabeth

Elizabeth Gascoigne Rosa is a Sydney writer. She has a BA and LLB from the University of Sydney.

Her novel, Legally Blind, a comedy, was released in 2009 and she has recently completed her novel, The Cellist, about an ambitious young musician who deceives his lover as to his true identity. Elizabeth is a former tutor at the Sydney Story Factory and was a judge of the Sydney Writers' Room Short Story Competition 2017.
