Welcome to our hands-on soap making workshop in Redfern, where you'll discover how fun it is to craft your own soap bars from scratch using the cold-process method. In this class, you'll fill a 1kg soap mould shaped like a loaf, which can be cut into 7 luxurious bars of soap.
What makes this class truly unique is the creative freedom it offers. You'll receive a detailed worksheet packed with soap-making tips and our carefully crafted base recipe. During the session, you’ll personalise your soap with nourishing clays tailored to your skin type, a custom-blended signature scent, and optional exfoliants for added texture.
You'll also explore a curated selection of natural clays, exfoliants, dried petals, activated charcoal, and fragrance oils. Discover their unique benefits and learn how to customise your soap to suit your skin's needs. Build out the base recipe with your chosen ingredients to create a truly one-of-a-kind soap tailored to you.
What You'll Learn:
- The basics of cold process soap making
- How to work safely with sodium hydroxide (lye), an essential ingredient, you can't make soap without it!
- Understanding the saponification process and its importance in soap making
- The benefits of superfatting your soap and how to do it
- How to blend fragrance oils together, creating a custom scent
- Learn about the nourishing aspects of each oil and why we use them in our base recipe
- Learn about the unique properties and benefits of various clays, allowing you to customise your soap
- Learn how to blend all of your ingredients together
- An introduction to natural exfoliants and decorative toppings like petals and salts
- Techniques for insulating and curing your soap for the best results
- Tips on how to cut your soaps into bars
Your soap will need to cure in its mould for 8-12 hours. For those who wish to take their soap loaf home on the day, we offer the option to purchase the mould for $15. If you choose this option, you can keep your soap in the mould for transport and curing at home. Additionally, if you decide to join us for another soap-making class, you will receive a $15 discount on your next session to refill your mould. Alternatively, if you prefer not to purchase the mould, you are welcome to leave your soap with us to cure, and you can come back to collect your soap at a later date.

Can I bring my own ingredients for my soap?
To ensure the best results and a seamless class experience, we provide all the ingredients you’ll need, including our carefully developed base recipe. For safety and consistency, we ask that participants do not bring their own ingredients, as even small changes can impact the final product.Â

IMPORTANT: On the day of the class, we will be using sodium hydroxide, an essential ingredient to make soap. We will teach you how to work safely with this ingredient. The saponification process fully neutralises the lye, so there is no lye left in the cured soap.

What to bring

Our story began in 2018 in a small Redfern studio. With only one desk and one sewing machine, our first class was published and we haven't looked back. Our passion for the arts coupled with bringing people together, brought our vision of launching a creative hub to life. In our modern world, everything moves quickly, we have adapted to a fast-paced environment and sometimes it can be hard to slow ourselves down. Sydney Creative is a place for people to relax, regroup and find a creative outlet that will hopefully aid in bringing people a sense of achievement, fulfilment and joy. Today, our classes run from our own venue in Redfern. We run lots of different creative classes from Sewing to Jewellery, painting and lots more, we love following the trends and developing new classes for our customers to enjoy.
