Go plastic-free by making and using your own eco-friendly beeswax wraps and food pouches at this online class with Vishakha Patel.

Did you have an itch last time you were at an artisan market to buy all those bright, vibrant and beautiful beeswax food wraps? Learn how to craft these eco-friendly, sustainable food pouches yourself!

Class outline:

  • Why beeswax?
  • The fabric, is 100 per cent cotton, pick your favourite colour/prints
  • The secret wax-to-fabric ratio
  • Three ways of doing it: oven, saucepan, ironing
  • Practical: we will use an oven to make our wraps
  • Brushing and air drying
  • Three ways of folding the wraps to make food pouches
  • Tips for storing, using, washing and reviving

Once the food wraps are made, your teacher will also explain the three different methods of folding the wraps to make food pouches:
1. Sandwich pouch
2. Popcorn pouch
3. Pocket pouch

At the end of the class, you will take home three different beeswax food wraps or pouches! These food wraps are sustainable, reusable and will last you forever as a quick wipe once used and they are ready to be used again, for beeswax will make it bacteria resistant and durable for multiple wipes and rinses.

After the class, you will also receive Vishakha's Digital Booklet documenting key points to work with Beeswax for your future reference so that you can be in the moment while in the workshop without having to worry about taking notes.

Start using these straightaway in the kitchen to wrap up food, such as bread or cheese or cut fruits or vegetables or provide covers for jars and bowls. Ditch the plastic containers and use these to pack your sandwich for your next picnic!

I have always had that intuitive urge to 'create' something with a purpose: a new vegetarian recipe, a cake that would still be calorie-friendly, a soap that would nourish my skin with essential oils, a paining that would tell a story of my childhood, a candle that would smell divine?

By day, I am a fulltime ICT Professional helping product teams build great software applications that deliver an awesome User experience. In my moonlight hours and occasionally on weekends, I enjoy this experience of facilitating crafts workshops at my adorable apartment thereby follow my own passion (thank God I found a way), do what I love (or else no point yea), exercise my entrepreneurial skills (or at least I would think so), stay emotionally healthy (this one is real), meet new people (when Sydney reportedly is world's 3rd worst city to make new friends), and do my bit of promoting mental health.

In my journey of hosting the picnics, cooking, baking, fitness and crafts experiences in Sydney, I have come across a range of creative people, many of whom discovered things to be a fun hobby and some who have taken it further and started selling stuff online.

My pursuit of the little joys of life continues as I look forward to share these experiences with you!
