What you'll do
Looking for unique things to do at home? Begin your bookbinding journey with this hands-on virtual class and learn how to make a beautiful rainbow Venetian journal!
During this online class, you'll learn how to stitch and use coloured leather and waxed thread to create your wonderful, handmade journal.
Follow bookbinding expert Isabelle through the process step-by-step, and make a full leather wrap-around journal in no time!
Class outline:
- Learn skills fundamental to hand bookbinding and be able to repeat and practice at home.
- Use a variety of tools and materials and how to apply them to the sewing and construction of your book.
- Learn basic bookbinding stitch techniques.
- Work with different coloured leather and waxed thread.
At the end of this relaxing class, you'll have an incredible journal and the skills and confidence to continue your bookbinding journey!

Should you choose to gather your own tools and materials, please ensure that all tools and materials are on hand within easy reach during the workshop. You will be expected to have everything on the list or improvised at your own responsibility.
Knowledge required
- This is workshop is aimed at anyone who is curious and interested in learning some bookbinding skills.
- This is a technical workshop: No experience is necessary, but the workshop requires a certain level of capability and confidence in using sharp instruments and being able to follow verbal instructions is expected.

- 32 pieces A4 paper (long-grain) folded down to A6 (at least 110gsm)
- One skin of veg tan leather at least 15.5cm (H) x 30cm (L) in size
