Learnt a wonderful skill at an easy-going pace with a very patient instructor, Simon Pegg, who constantly kept an eye over everyone's progress and always delivered helpful advice in a really timely manner. I was able to produce twelve pretty impressive finished pieces despite zero prior experience. It was fun and very satisfying!

Wet wood/dry wood, round bowls//square bowls, thick walls/(very) thin walls we carved it all. And very capably led by our highly expert and enthusiastic instructor, Simon Begg. Highly recommended if you want to finally realise a dream. You will also walk with enough interesting bowls to persuade even the most recalcitrant partner to find your lathe a place at home.

Over the course of five days, I went from never having used a lathe to using a variety of tools to turn bowls, spindles, and delicate finials. In addition to just showing us how to safely and effectively use the equipment, Simon also shared info on sourcing wood, the market for wooden art, and different artists' techniques and work.

The instructors were fantastic and extremely knowledgable. The facility was great and the equipment provided was excellent. I'd highly recommend this course to anyone starting out their woodturning journey.

Both instructors took great time. to make sure that we understood what Was said and explained it slowly and concisely it has certainly Fairsted my interest greatly and I will be ordering a Life and other equipment so that I can practice at home PAUL.

Such a tricky thing to teach to multiple people at once, but Simon and Ken work well getting around all of us answering questions and refining techniques. Can wait to do another one!

The venue was well set up, but all day parking was difficult. We did the course after a friend had done so and showed us his results, which we inspiring. My only disappointment was that the materials he was given to work with were different as it turned out. He was lucky enough to turn two Huon pine blocks, and a tassie burl, both of which I am particularly interested in working with. I understand some timbers are harder to get, so I'm only expressing my observations. I also think the dust extraction could be improved with a much better system and the unit being placed outside of the work area with some soundproofing. Lighting was good. Simon and Ken were amazing teachers - very knowledgeable, relaxed and great at guiding you at your pace and in an easy to understand way. I can now comfortably go and make my own bowls The course covered a good range of techniques and gave time to explore your own ideas. The equipment and resources provided were good quality and there was no shortage of timber to make as many bowls as time and skill allowed.
