Flower Cloud Workshop Sydney

Create a stunning flower cloud centerpiece — a vase-less floating arrangement.

1.5 hours Location Redfern Class size 1 to 6 (public classes), 6 to 30   $189 (Afterpay available)

What You’ll Do:
A flower cloud is one of floristry’s most dramatic and beautiful creations — a dense, airy mass of blooms that appears to float above the table, with no vase in sight. Used at weddings, events, and styled celebrations, it’s a technique that until now has been the domain of professional florists only.
At Merchant & Green, we’re bringing it into the workshop studio.
In this one-hour class, our expert floristry team will teach you the professional mechanics behind a flower cloud — floral foam, tray construction, and the 360-degree building technique that creates that signature floating effect. You’ll work with a curated selection of mixed seasonal blooms, including reflexed roses — a classic floristry technique where petals are gently opened back to create a fuller, more luxurious bloom — alongside complementary flowers and foliage chosen for colour, texture, and volume.
The result is a compact 20x20cm flower cloud centrepiece that you take home the same day — ready to sit on a dining table, sideboard, or celebration table as a genuine statement piece.
What You’ll Learn:
  • The professional mechanics of a flower cloud — floral foam preparation and tray construction
  • How to reflex a rose — the florist technique for opening petals to their fullest, most luxurious form
  • 360-degree building technique — how to create a composition that looks beautiful from every angle
  • Colour, texture, and volume — the principles behind a lush, cloud-like arrangement
  • How to care for your flower cloud and maximise its longevity at home

FAQ

What is a flower cloud workshop and where can I do one in Sydney?
A flower cloud workshop teaches the professional floristry technique behind one of the most dramatic table centrepiece styles — a dense, vase-less arrangement of seasonal blooms built on a floral foam base that appears to float above the table. Merchant & Green at 686 Bourke Street, Redfern is the only studio in Sydney offering a dedicated flower cloud workshop. In the one-hour class, students learn the 360-degree building technique, professional foam mechanics, and how to reflex roses — a florist skill for opening petals to their fullest form — to create a 20x20cm flower cloud centrepiece to take home. $195pp, public classes up to 6 guests.
What is a reflexed rose and how is it used in a flower cloud?
A reflexed rose is a classic professional floristry technique where the outer petals of a rose are gently folded back by hand, opening the bloom to its fullest and most luxurious form. The result is a dramatically fuller, more voluminous flower that contributes significantly to the cloud-like density of a flower cloud arrangement. At Merchant & Green’s Flower Cloud Workshop in Redfern, students are taught to reflex roses as part of the class — a genuine florist skill most people have never been shown — before incorporating them into their finished centrepiece alongside complementary seasonal blooms and foliage.
How is a flower cloud different to a regular flower arrangement?
A flower cloud is built without a vase — the structure is a floral foam base in a shallow tray, allowing blooms to be inserted from every angle to create a 360-degree composition that appears to float above the table rather than sit in a container. Unlike a hand-tied bouquet or vase arrangement which has a clear front-facing orientation, a flower cloud is designed to be viewed from all sides simultaneously — making it ideal as a dining table centrepiece where guests sit around it. At Merchant & Green’s Flower Cloud Workshop in Redfern, students learn the professional mechanics behind this technique in a one-hour beginner-friendly class, taking home a finished 20x20cm flower cloud for $195pp.
