Learn to Skateboard with Totem.

We partner with councils to run FREE Learn to Skate Workshops all across Sydney and New South Wales.

From beginner to Intermediate sessions. The sessions include all equipment (skateboard, helmet and safety pads) and focuses on developing and improving skate skills as well as building confidence in a fun and safe environment.

What students will learn:
- The correct standing techniques
- The correct stopping techniques
- How to control the board
- How to make safe decisions while skateboarding
- Skatepark navigation and etiquette
- Some basic tricks and skateboard skills

No knowledge required, beginners are most welcome!
If you already have some skills/knowledge, you're welcome to attend too.
What to bring
Q. What do I need to bring to the event?

A. Your ticket, a hat, and a water bottle. We supply all necessary equipment for our sessions (skateboard, helmet, and safety pads). However, feel free to bring along your own board or helmet so the coaches can do a quick safety check!
Suitable for

Suitable for adults, and kids (minimum 5 years old). An adult must accompany any attending kids. The adult may observe at the class for free.

Head coach at Totem Skateboarding


Nigel has been skateboarding for sixteen years and coaching for a decade. The man lives and breathes skateboarding, which led him to founding Totem Skate School in 2010.

Nigel is passionate about working with young people and has completed certificates in Youth Work and Community Services Work at the Northern Sydney Institute. He has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to skateboarding which has made him an asset to many small communities as he assists with the planning and development of local skate parks.

Nigel is accredited with The Australian Sports Commission and has First Aid Qualifications.
