Japanese Shine Carving is a completely new form of healing sculpture art invented just 6 years ago in Kyoto, Japan. The process involves using two special carving knives to cut various lines and patterns on a pre-printed silicone sheet, creating sculptures with a glass-like texture in your own designs.
By shining different patterns on the carved pieces, unique light reflection and decorative displays are formed. The carving process is deeply healing, helping to reduce stress while allowing you to enjoy a moment of calm and exclusive me-time or lovely moments with your beloved friends and family.
The courses take around three hours and includes:

Konnichiwa!
My name is Ayumi, and I’m a passionate crafter, artist, and matcha enthusiast from Tokyo, Japan. Four years ago, I moved to Sydney, bringing with me a deep love for Japanese traditions and handmade crafts. Through my small business Hanabi.au, I hope to share the joy of creativity and connect with fellow art lovers in Australia.
Ever since I was little, I’ve been fascinated by handmade art. I explored oil and acrylic painting—losing myself in the textures and colors—and later discovered the cozy charm of crochet. There’s something magical about turning simple materials into something beautiful, whether it’s a hand-painted canvas, a dyed scarf, or a crocheted plushie.
Since no one mention this brand-new Japanese carving hobby to Australia, I would love to introduce "Shine Carving Workshop" to Sydney as a beginning, and see how far we can go. I am sure you will never experience this art form ever.
When I’m not crafting, you’ll likely find me whisking a bowl of matcha. The ritual of preparing tea reminds me of home and brings a moment of calm to my busy days. I adore sharing this experience with others, just as I love teaching people how to create their own handmade treasures.
Moving to Sydney was a big change, but it inspired me to start my business—a space where creativity and community come together. The name “Hanabi” (fireworks) reflects my dream: to spark joy through crafts, just like fireworks light up the night sky. I host workshops, share DIY tips, and curate handmade goods, all with the hope of introducing Australians to new hobbies and connecting like-minded people.
I believe that crafting isn’t just about the final product—it’s about the happiness of making, the friendships formed along the way, and the little moments of mindfulness we find in our busy lives. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just starting out, I’d love to meet you, share a cup of matcha, and create something beautiful together.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me—I can’t wait to connect and craft with you!
