Jewellery Repair and Upcycle Class

Sustainable Style - Jewellery

2 hours Class size 4 to 12 label $50

Your teacher, Christine Smalley is COVID-19 aware

This means that this teacher won't run a class if they've had flu symptoms in the last 14 days, and will adhere to relevant state restrictions (e.g. on maximum number of students per class)

See additional precautions taken by your teacher

I disinfectant all the tables and chairs before and after each class and have available for class participants hand sanitiser pumps in the kitchen, bathrooms, and workshop space.

Who doesn't have a stash of unworn & broken jewellery in their bottom drawer?

Empty your jewellery drawers girls. It is time to transform your broken inherited and pre loved jewels to create wearable jewellery or simply just make a one off statement piece!

Thrift, revamping, reclaiming & recycling have become synonymous with craft in recent years. Reacting against the technological advances of the 21st century, ostentation is fading & bigger issues: sustainability, climate change, global poverty, & ethical trading are becoming important.

Remember: you do not have to spend a fortune nor buy pieces in mint condition, especially when you are going to cut it up, pull it apart or restring it!

Give old jewellery a fresh lease of life & bring a vintage charm to your designs through an inspired use of beads & charms. Bring your own broken treasures & create something wearable. You will also receive valuable tips in cleaning & preserving your jewellery.

ABOUT YOUR JEWELLERY TUTOR:

Christine Smalley is the Founder and Creative Director of Etelage. Her signature designs are bold beaded necklaces and intricately detailed earrings. She enjoys sharing her knowledge of jewellery design in jewellery workshops & travels the globe to source beautiful artisan components. Christine draws inspiration from the modern deco 1920s style, 1960s jet set glamour and some 1970s boho chic all of which governs her artistic expression.
She observes that generally as a society we are becoming more mindful about our choices: conscious of choosing products which are made using artisan traditions & not mass produced, and seeking quality over quantity. So it is with that philosophy she shares her skills and knowledge of jewellery design to encourage all her students to awaken their creative soul and seek beauty, slow, artisan and local.
Christine creates a teaching environment where participants can share ideas, be inspired and let their imaginations run wild! With over 16 years teaching experience Christine is dedicated to empowering her students to become better designers and better makers, equipping them with skills and confidence to create whatever her students dream!

Inspiring Jewellery Designer, Educator and Stylist

5.0 (17)

I founded Etelage (French for adornment), a boutique jewellery design studio, in 2002. Fueled with a passion for women to exude their notable and authentic style.
Etelage celebrates the maker culture, creativity and the joy and craftsmanship of handmade.
I am a local inner west, Sydney jewellery designer, passionate educator, author, community-spirited and sustainable style advocate.
I wander the globe to source the beautiful and the unique. From vintage elements which I find in dusty basements to modern elements made by artisans from time-honoured traditions. I observe that generally as a society we are becoming more mindful about our choices: conscious of choosing products which are made using artisan traditions and not mass produced, and seeking quality over quantity.

My goal is to create exciting and original creative workshop experiences, encouraging all my students to awaken their creative soul and seek beauty, slow, artisan and local.

I love creating a teaching environment where participants can share ideas, be inspired and let their imaginations run wild! With over 18 years teaching experience from TAFE, corporate and community groups, to hens parties and private tuition, I am dedicated to empowering my students to become better designers and better makers, equipping them with skills and confidence to create whatever they dream!

Learn how to string chunky necklaces, knot eclectic beads, link chandelier earrings, use buttons and buckles in jewellery design, and more at our friendly and intimate studio spaces in Rozelle and Summer Hill (Sept 2020). Alternatively, we can travel to your venue. (for group bookings only)

I invite you to come and learn some simple jewellery making techniques with a local jeweller, which will impress you as well as your friends.

Etelage jewellery workshops are perfect for individuals, corporate bookings or a group of friends.

Let's make and play together and unlock your inner creative!
