*Sydney Craft Week 1.5hr Special, please see below*
Transform a block of clay into a spontaneous, textural form through the clay carving technique of Kurinuki.
Kurinuki (which in Japanese means 'to hollow') is a pottery technique of carving a vessel from a single block of clay. This technique is all about embracing spontaneity and imperfection while creating your sculptural forms.
In this beginner-friendly class, you will learn the basics of Kurinuki and get to make two of your own pieces. These will be dried, fired and glazed for collection at a later date (approximately four to six weeks later).
Pieces made in this class are food safe, dishwasher safe and completely functional. They will act as perfect vessels for your favourite cup of tea once they have been glazed and fired.
At the end of your class, you'll be equipped with all the skills needed to continue this mindful craft in your own time.
*Sydney Craft Week 2023 Special*
Join us for a one off taster sessions hosted by Into-Arts as part of Sydney Craft Week 2023. These classes have been compacted into an express 1.5hour session for a bit of late night crafting and will also include sake (limited to 1 glass per person)
In this class you will learn the basics of Kurinuki and get to make one vessel that will be glazed and fired ready for pick up at a later date. There will also be some extra smaller blocks for those that finish early for you to make a chopstick holder or two.
Suitable for adults, and kids (minimum 12 years old).
An adult must accompany any attending kids, and must pay for a separate ticket.
INTO-ARTS, Ryedale Road, West Ryde NSW
This venue is a short walk from West Ryde station (200m).
I am a full-time high school Design and Technology teacher who is an avid lover of all things clay. I have enjoyed making throughout my years at high school and university and have found a medium that I am truly passionate about.
I studied Ceramics at UNSW Art & Design and discovered my love for wheel throwing around 4-5 years ago and have not stopped since. I am forever searching for ways to improve and build upon my knowledge of all things clay and have recently been sharing my passion for the medium through teaching pottery classes over the last year.
I am inspired by Japanese ceramics and have been learning various techniques that I want to share with the wider community to hopefully ignite a love for ceramics that reaches all.
