If the answer is “yes” and you know you are afraid to take this leap then our first free video tutorial on how to paint a giant red poppy using inks on canvas is your key to experiencing losing the fear, and realising that water is actually your best friend.

Follow along with our pre-recorded video tutorials at home at your own pace and in your own time!

You'll learn how to:

  • Find simple shapes when drawing up the poppy.
  • Enlarge and transfer the drawing onto a large canvas.
  • Work out an interesting composition.
  • Let go and drop rich ink colours into water shapes.
  • Create colour vibration.
  • Create textures and use pastels to create interest and colour in the final stages.

Beginner-friendly.
 
What to bring
  • 500 mL bottles of ink (far cheaper to use larger bottles of inks) in red, yellow, phthalo blue and magenta.
  • Granulation medium (this adds a very interesting texture).
  • One large mop brush for adding water to the petals.
  • One large flat nylon brush.
  • One large white canvas.
  • A roll of clingfilm.
  • One poppy photo that you love.
  • One red pastel for drawing the outline of your poppy. This will melt away as you wet it.
  • Oil crayons or pastels in blue, aqua, pink, yellow, white, red, etc.
  • Spray water bottle.
Suitable for

Suitable for adults, and kids (minimum 10 years old).

Adult accompaniment is not required.
