Loom Weaving Workshop

Learn weaving at this Inner West Sydney textiles workshop



3 hours Class size 2 to 10     label $145

Join us for an introductory Sydney workshop in weaving, ideal for complete beginners or intermediate weavers that would like to refresh or extend their knowledge.

You will be guided through the basics of weaving a small scale tapestry using fibres on offer to create a textured weaving in a colour palette of your design.

What you'll learn:

  • How to warp up your timber loom.
  • Become familiar with weaving terms and tools.
  • Learn tapestry techniques and knots including Tabby Weave, Rya Knots, Soumak to begin.
  • How to remove your weaving from the loom ready to hang.

By the end of this workshop you will have:
  • Learned the basics of weaving techniques.
  • Crafted your own unique Bespoke Weaving (complete or near completion).
  • Skills to finish your weave or get going on another one!

Suitable for

This class is a great indoor activity idea for a birthday, hens party, team building activity, bucks party or Christmas party.

Suitable for adults, and kids (minimum 12 years old). An adult must accompany any attending kids, and must pay for a separate ticket.

This would also be a nice gift for her, gift for mum, anniversary gift or Xmas gift.

Heather opened her Studio East Village Art House, located in leafy Balmain East initially to continue teaching art to adults and school children after school and during school holidays. She had been teaching as an early childhood educator and decided on a change incorporating the best part of her day, teaching art.

Now, she has decided to extend the workshops on offer to adults as well, with a wealth of talent in textile art as well Art workshops. She extended her interest and knowledge when she and her family set up home in Tokyo for five years where she learnt ceramics, Satchiko, Boro embroidery and Sumie ( ink painting) and she makes her own ink from charcoal and gold leaf. Her studio is bright and welcoming located in the front of the family home.
