This is the ultimate all-in-one, where you can really sink your teeth into multiple crafts over the course of three hours!

This class is suitable for all skill levels and is perfect for a Sunday session of fun lockdown activities, solo or with friends.

What you'll learn:

  • An introduction to Tillandsia, Rhipsalis and string succulent plant care.
  • Techniques used in shaping, detailing and personalising your clay planters.
  • Techniques used in creating fun effects in your design such as texture, foiling, terrazzo, marbling, applying a metallic lustre finish.
  • Pattern practice techniques for coco planter painting with acrylics.
  • Guidance on stringing your clay and coco planters.

At the end of the class, you will have made one hand-painted coconut shell planter, a Kubist Clay midi-sized planter and two pairs of clay statement earrings (or extra planters). String succulents, tillandsia or Rhipsalis are also supplied for your creations.

I began collecting Tillandsia at home in 2017/18 and kept wondering how I could showcase them without occupying cabinet top or shelf space. It was very trial and error at first. Size and scale are important when dealing with polymer clay, so the planters needed to have a certain thickness and shape to prevent them from breaking from a fall. The mini planters, one of the first planters I made, are the most durable and would be highly unlikely to break from falling. This makes them perfect for hanging at height or outdoors!

Calling all indoor plant collectors, beginners to budding botanists. Join us for an experience where the botanical meets modern art!

Kubist Design finds fun and magic in combining air plants (tillandsia) with a selection of hand built, modern clay hanging planters for your little green pals.

Tillandsia are an exciting and diverse group of aerophyte plants in the Bromeliacae family. Many species are sculptural beauties in their own right. They are usually well suited to indoor locations, requiring indirect sunlight and just a spritz or bathe 1-2 times per week depending on the species.
