This is a ClassBento LiveBox class! From the comfort of your home, share an artisan experience with your friends, family or colleagues, or enjoy with like-minded others. As seen on The Guardian, TimeOut, Broadsheet, Concrete Playground, Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, and more. Here's how it works:

  1. Book or Request your preferred time
  2. We'll deliver a ClassBento Box to you - this is a physical DIY craft box containing the materials you'll need. Shipping is free, and you'll get your box delivered in time for your class. We ship nationwide.
  3. Enjoy the online class. You'll receive a link to a Zoom meeting. On the day of the class, use that link to join the class. Class sizes are kept small, so you can easily ask questions and get immediate responses. Zoom is free and easy to use, on any device. You're in control of your privacy - you can mute yourself and hide your webcam if and when you prefer.

Learn how to make your own unique mug in this live online class! You will discover so many possibilities of building that perfect mug without using a pottery wheel.

Your mug can have a handle or not, be tall and slim or wide and short, with a belly or without. And it can also be in your favourite colours inside and out.

Your teacher will demonstrate making a unique texture pattern or marble effect or special shape pottery piece. In your craft box, you will be supplied with sufficient materials to build your mug and to apply the amount of colourants to your wet piece, prior to firing.

Your teacher will also instruct you on how and where to fire your piece and all the rest you need to do to complete your perfectly functional mug and be able to drink your morning tea or coffee from your art piece. It does feel great drinking from something hand-built!

Idea is to include short description about what colours and style you prefer- You can refer to photos exhibited here. That way, your teacher will be able to send you the perfect combination of materials and tools so that you get what you want.

Also, please choose the complexity level at the check-out, to avoid misunderstandings. You can also advise your teacher at the beginning of the class with awareness that complexity of the piece dictates the time we need to make it ( you may need to finish it on your own, but you will be supplied with all the information you possibly need)
Metallics ( such as gold and silver) are not part in this class - you can achieve it only by glazing later on.

Pleas note: Everything made of Ceramic must be fired in ceramic kilns. Colour that you see inside of the mug is a glaze. Glazing comes after 1st firing and must be fired again. Firing is cheap and you will get the information where to do it.

You are welcome to attend Irina's glazing and firing class after this one, but during this class, you will learn the basic rules on how to proceed with completing your mug.

Add-on available for this class

Tumbler (metal or bamboo) that will serve as a mould for building your mug ($7)

Hi, I'm Irina.

I like to introduce myself as a sculptor, although I'm engaged in different art disciplines too. I have never had another profession, nor have I wanted one. I fell in love with three-dimensional art at a very early age which came to me naturally, as I was born in a family of artists. It was the world I've grown up in, a measure of value around me.

I have graduated from Fine Arts, majoring in Sculpture, and with a bit of luck, I had a chance to work internationally and gain great experience in different industries and media. Cooperating with professionals from other creative fields has perfectioned my skills and broadened the views of my artistic expression.

I have tried to gather all the projects I am engaged in on this website, showcase it, sell and teach my art. Always open for the new projects with fellow creatives, just get in touch.

Irina did a great job teaching us how to make a simple clay mug. Her instructions were easy to follow and everyone’s mugs turned out looking really good! Looking forward to firing the mugs later to see the finished product. It was a really good introduction to mug making for first-timers.

Thanks Irina for leading the class and answering all our questions.

I had never tried something like this before. The class was a gentle introduction and I learnt some cool things. Very glad I got the mold - that made life much easier.

A relaxed way to spend an hour on a Sunday. A very patient teacher who was also generous with her knowledge and really keen to help at every step of the process. I’m hoping I’ll get the opportunity to do another class very soon.

We had so much fun and Irina was so patient with our inexperienced giggling group. Highly recommend!

I didn't receive the cup mould. Class seems a bit pricey for whats involved.

Also wasn't aware there was extra work and more costs involved to complete product post the tutorial.

More time is required for the class in order to allow more questions.

Great teacher very informative and easy to follow. I will recommend for other people.

Reply from this teacher:

Dear Monika,

I am truly sorry that you did not have a good experience in my class but I am asking you kindly to thoroughly read the listing prior to booking so that we avoid any disappointments.

You have not received a cup mould because you have not ordered one.

When you choose not to purchase one- listing advises to have one handy- under “ things you’ll need”.

Firing and glazing that you are addressing to as an additional work and effort is inevitable part of ceramic art and it has been so since its invention.

My listing mentions it in many points, i will try to highlight it more.

Further- I am really trying to teach people a unique techniques that I myself have came up with, and I thought that trying to teach more advanced things are bonus rather than a flaw, and I wish you have advised in the beginning of the class that you prefer a simpler option.

Finally, I have made my class longer for you and I will for everyone who needs more time- I even offer additional consultations and feedback should you need any in my follow up email.

My offer to help you finish your mug successfully still stands.

One on one classes for me are a little awkward but the teacher had some good advice and was knowledgeable.
