In this hands-on five-part course, you will be guided through the step-by-step process of creating your own silver ring or pendant by an expert silversmith. You will get the chance to get in touch with your creative side by designing and carving a wax ring or pendant, which will then be cast in sterling silver. You will then get to add any finishing touches before you polish the final piece.
What you will learn in this course:
  • Practicing wax and casting techniques
  • How to make rings from strips of wax sheet
  • Working with tube wax and carving tools to create a unique ring or pendant design
  • Clean up castings
  • Finish and polish silver castings
  • How to manufacture designs for sale

What to bring
  • The cost of the castings at the last session (varies depending on size and weight, currently the price of metal per gram is $1.75Sep 2020).
  • Masks, apron and safety goggles.
  • You will need to wear enclosed shoes, old clothes you don't mind getting dirty and tie up long hair.

Shan Shan was born in Hong Kong and raised in Sydney. She graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts, majoring in Jewellery and Object Design from the University of Sydney. In 2010, she pursued her Honours studies alongside developing a jewellery and object artist career.

In 2010, Shan Shan was awarded the Zelda Stedman Young Student Scholarship from The University of Sydney and she was also awarded first place in the Art-Environment/People category, University of Sydney Union Photography, Art, Literature and Music (PALM) Awards.
Shan Shan was awarded selected finalist in national international art and design awards every year since 2007 including: Sydney Region Winner -- Accessories Category-- RAWards 2013 Australia. 2nd Runner up – Ring - total weight 3-carat diamond and 18k gold ring, Buyers’ Favourite Jewellery Design Competition 2009 (HKJMA, Hong Kong). Finalist in EnlightenedTM - Swarovski Elements Passion Topaz Jewellery Design Competition 2008/9. Finalist in BKV- Prize 2007, (Bayerischer Kunstgewerbe-Verein e. V, Munich, Germany).
Her work is showcased and sold in 13 galleries in Australia (NSW, VIC and WA). She keeps extending her business/career by bringing her innovative design-artwork to the public.
