Silversmithing Class for Beginners: Earrings

Craft your own pair of sterling silver in this hands-on Sydney workshop

2 hours

Class size 1 to 18 (public classes), 10 to 30
  $99 (Afterpay available)

Join us for an immersive silversmithing experience in this ultimate beginner class in Sydney. Tap into your creative side and make your own pair of sterling silver earrings.
Working with a sterling silver sheet, you'll learn how to cut your shapes using a jeweller's saw. Refine your edges with precision using metal files and emery paper before delving into the world of texture, choosing from options like matte, shiny, hammered or domed finishes.
Each participant will receive a piece of sterling silver in sheet form, enough to make a pair of earrings around the same size as our listing photos. Additional silver can be purchased to accommodate larger shapes if you like statement earrings.
Finally, you'll learn how to drill the metal to create holes for attaching ear hooks.
This class will run for two hours, where the duration will depend on the complexity of your design and options you choose during the class.‍ Please note this is not a sip class and alcohol is not permitted due to health and safety. We will have complimentary water, tea, coffee and cookies for you on the day.
Please note: This class is for adults only. Under 18s will not be able to enter the venue, this includes babies.‍

  • 5/5 from Yue Wu, attended Jul 2026: Focused time away from screen in a rainy winter evening -> going home with a pair of silver earrings + lots of beautiful little stories about people dealing with stones in different corners of the city.
  • 5/5 from Paige Geier, attended Jan 2026: Got this class as a gift, went by myself and had a blast. It was super easy to follow and I got some beautiful earrings at the end of it! Would definitely recommend as a gift or a treat
  • 1/5 from Madeleine Pitt, attended Oct 2025: I’ll be honest it was terrible, it was a terrible task to do - cut my hand, they didn’t care. It was hard the silver that they give you should be larger as it was so tedious to cut everyone was complaining the wires kept snapping. Not a good idea for a task for a hens day that’s for sure. Would never do again
  • 5/5 from Maureen Riemer, attended Apr 2025: Our teacher, Dani was excellent. Appreciation of process to make silver earrings. Would like to join a class to learn fusing. Maureen

  • 5/5 from Sarah Cheet, attended Mar 2025: The teacher was so great, very friendly and created a very relaxing and easy going vibe in the classroom. We had some good chats and also some good quiet time to really get into the class. It was really easy to use the voucher too. Thank you!
  • 5/5 from Mary Pham, attended Mar 2025: We had a great time with Dani for our private Hens event. Silversmithing was incredibly fun and Dani was extremely friendly and supportive with hosting our group! You really made the day so special for our bride to be :) Sophie was also very accommodating with our booking. Big thanks to the Sydney Creative Team!
  • 5/5 from Danielle Hughes, attended Oct 2024: I look forward to wearing my handmade shiny silver earrings. Our instructor Dani explained and demonstrated every step, then we could practise using the tools before working on our own earrings. The small class of 4 was relaxed and we all worked at our own pace. I even made up my own design but there were heaps of templates to choose from. I would recommend going with a friend. Easy to find venue and bright pink walls made the space welcoming and arty. An enjoyable, creative experience.
  • 4/5 from Sharon Douglas, attended Sep 2024: Lovely class after work with Dani. I sell silver jewellery as a hobby and loved the class for the little insight into silver smithing. I made a pair of silver petal earrings with a hammered finish. Dani showed us how to cut around the patten on a small silver sheet, trim and buff the cut out, peirce and drill the hole for the earrings hook. I also finished my earring with a hammered finish and chose a shephards hook for the drop. Dani was knowledgeable, friendly and warm likewise the venue on a cold Friday evening. I enjoyed the hammering of the silver, love the look and highly therapeutic after a busy week.
  • 5/5 from Jules Caburian, attended Aug 2024: Loved the venue and our teacher was great! It ended up just being like a private class for my goddaughter and I because two other people cancelled. A lovely, unique way to spend a Saturday evening.

  • 5/5 from Manar Al Thumairi, attended May 2024: My partner and I went to the beginners silversmithing class. We had a fantastic time making our own pairs of earrings with our instructor! The venue was a really lovely space too. We learned many interesting techniques on how to cut and shape the silver sheets, and also how to hammer and polish the earrings for a beautiful finish. Our teacher was so passionate and friendly and we learned a lot from her. Overall a fantastic experience and our earrings look beautiful! Would definitely recommend to all, as the class is very beginner friendly.

Our story began in 2018 in a small Redfern studio. With only one desk and one sewing machine, our first class was published and we haven't looked back. Our passion for the arts coupled with bringing people together, brought our vision of launching a creative hub to life.
In our modern world, everything moves quickly, we have adapted to a fast-paced environment and sometimes it can be hard to slow ourselves down. Sydney Creative is a place for people to relax, regroup and find a creative outlet that will hopefully aid in bringing people a sense of achievement, fulfilment and joy.
Today, our classes run from our own venue in Redfern. We run lots of different creative classes from Sewing to Jewellery, painting and lots more, we love following the trends and developing new classes for our customers to enjoy.
