Learn more about your SLR camera and taking photos "in-the-field", while discovering the heritage-listed Gore Hill Cemetery here in Sydney. Your teacher Chris will guide you through a quiet, hidden gem amongst the bustle of Sydney life.

After being overgrown with trees and bushes for many years, the cemetery is now maintained by The Northern Cemeteries Trust. This historic place is open to the public and is a fascinating look into Sydney’s early history.

With incredible family monuments and interesting gravesites, it is easy to make dramatic photos of this wonderful place. Garden maintenance halts at the end of Autumn to allow the ‘weeds’ and grasses to grow over winter. Spring comes and the cemetery is awash with exotic and garden flowers. It’s really a wonderful sight and a photographers delight!

During the workshop, we will wander the cemetery creating beautiful photographs and learning a little about Sydney's history as well.

You will learn:

  • How to use your SLR camera to take fewer photos, but better ones.
  • The difference between auto and semi-auto settings, the basics.
  • Good exposure techniques to control colour and clarity in your photos.
  • A system to create good composition.
  • How to craft beautiful photos on your travels.
