  • 5/5 from Therese Hoogesteger, attended Mar 2026: This class blew me away. From Mikey and Leila opening up their home, to the intimate home like, small group experience, we were made to feel relaxed and had the outline of the day explained to us. We then walked through the process step by step where we started to make the dough for our bread and also made the starter for us to take home to bake. Mikey and Leila had a depth of experience they were willing to share openly, and their expertise has continued to follow through days after the experience, where we have been walked through how to feed, maintain and establish our starter. It has been very hands on so we haven't been set up to fail. As a class, together we made scones for morning tea and at the beginning of the day, we baked a loaf from dough that had been preprepared. One by one we went through different steps of each process, with personal attention where necessary to perfect the steps so weren't set up to fail the process, and ended up being able to bake our own loaf of bread that we prepared during the class the next day. Mikey and Leila, we love your openess and expertise and your willingness to share. Thank you for being willing to share your knowledge and to share your skills with us. Thank you for opening up your home, for feeding us so well, and not leaving us to go away blindly to do it on our own but have continued to walk us through step by step so we can become established independent bakers of sourdough. Thanks for sharing how we can also use the same dough to bake charcuterie we had with lunch. I so greatly wish we could give you much more than five stars - Mikey and Leila, you are phenomenal teachers and sharers, thank you \(^_^)/
  • 5/5 from Daniel Hoogesteger, attended Mar 2026: The hosts were very open and welcoming. The whole process was presented in a simple and easy to follow manner. They offered great instructions and tips to ensure that we would be successful in our participation both on the day and in baking our prepared dough the next day. They have continued to offer support and ensure that we are on track to producing our first starter. On the day as extra They also showed us how to make scones using sourdough and a few other options. The group was great and the lunch served by our hosts at the end of fresh bread and a charcuterie board was delish
  • 5/5 from Terri Forsterq, attended Mar 2026: Such a great experience! The workshop was really relaxed and friendly, with lots of chances to chat with others in the group. Mike and Leila shared loads of knowledge and explained everything in a really easy, approachable way. It was also great to actually work through the steps yourself and leave with a loaf ready to bake at home. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone — whether you’re a complete beginner or already have some experience. Had a great time!
  • 5/5 from Christine Vasta, attended Mar 2026: Fantasitc class - well paced with lots of opportunity for questions. Great hands-on expereince. Wonderful morning tea and lunch that added to the experience. • 5/5 from Kylie Routledge, attended Feb 2026: I got this class as a gift, and it was such an amazing find. Mike and Leila are so lovely and down-to-earth. Sourdough baking can be a bit daunting when you start, but they made the process simple, and were so generous with their knowledge and skills. I also thought it was really good value - apart from the delicious charcuterie, fresh bread and scones we had on the day, we also came away with a banneton, bread scraper, starter, feed, extensive instructions and a loaf of dough to bake later. I'm so glad we finally have something like this in the hills district and would highly recommend it for anyone with any interest in bread baking.
  • 5/5 from Katarina Sepping, attended Jan 2026: Mikey and Leila were so welcoming, approachable and knowledgeable. I finished the class with a greater understanding of the steps to make sourdough and what each steps purpose was. Their guidance for technique such as stretching and folding, and shaping the dough was so incredibly useful. Overall it’s was a fun and engaging class that has jumpstarted my sourdough journey. Could not recommend more. My first sourdough bake turned out great with the guidance of Mikey and Leila.

Michael and Leila were very knowledgeable and demonstrated the stages of the bread making patiently with us all, supporting us all to do the same. A delicious morning tea and lunch to boot; can’t wait to bake my bread and moreso, eat it. Would recommend - thanks for a lovely day guys
  • 5/5 from Friederike White, attended Sep 2025: I thoroughly enjoyed the sourdough making class hosted by Leila and Mickey. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel welcome in their beautiful home. With just six students in the group, the class felt personal and relaxed. Leila and Mickey shared their extensive knowledge and experience, patiently answering questions throughout the day (and even offering support afterwards). It is clear they genuinely love what they do. Apart from learning about the “starter”, the different steps of making a dough, and the baking process, we were treated to a delicious morning tea of sourdough scones we had made during class - with cream and homemade fig jam. Later, we enjoyed a beautiful lunch made from the sourdough we baked earlier, served with a smorgasbord of fresh fruit, cheeses, cold meats, honeycomb, and my personal favourite: honey-roasted pecans. I’m looking forward to putting my new sourdough skills into practice, knowing I can reach out to Leila and Mickey if I need any help or advice along the way. Highly recommend this class to anyone interested in learning the art of sourdough! (Pic of bread I baked after class at home)

  • 5/5 from Lala T, attended Aug 2025: Instructors really went all out to make sure everything was catered for. Literally incredible service and support. You will not find a better sourdough class anywhere in Sydney! When I first came across this class I was comparing it to others on the market but wow seriously everything was so amazing! They have truely been so considerate, from their before class, in-class to after class support and very welcoming. Great energy and vibes from Leila and Michael
  • 5/5 from Kyleigh Holland-Quinn, attended Jun 2025: I can't rate Michael and Leila highly enough, they were extremely organised and welcoming, the class itself was so interactive and they provided helpful tips and tricks along the way, not only that they continue to check in daily with reminders on feeding our starter, provided all recipes and I would not hesitate to recommend Hills Sourdough Co to anyone thinking about attending.
  • 5/5 from Cate Faehrmann, attended Jun 2025: I had a great and informative experinece in Michael and Leila's class. They were warm and inclusive, as well as generous with their experience and time. I had come to the class having become somewhat proficient at most of the steps to making a sourdough loaf, but was frustrated from repeated failures in the final proving and baking (the most important bits!). They made it easy to understand how to get over that hurdle and how to 'idiot-proof' my bread making from here on. Great teachers and humans, thank you, thank you!
  • 5/5 from Maria Rossini, attended May 2025: Instructors are really knowledgeable and patient. They went through each stage of the sourdough making process. Morning tea and lunch were provided. Food was wholesome and straight from the farmers markets, absolutely brilliant. Great course and really easy to follow the instructors. The instructors even follow up the next day. Very calming atmosphere. Highly recommended.
  • 5/5 from Nartarn Al Dhalimi, attended Apr 2025: The best way to spend a Saturday! The class was so informative and completely hands on. Watched a loaf get scored and sent off for baking while we made our own starter, made scones, made a loaf to take home to bake and learnt all the tips and techniques to sourdough success. Yummy treats to eat, a very relaxing and well paced class. Highly recommend.
  • 5/5 from Peter Kidby, attended Apr 2025: Great couple made us very welcome in their lovely home great teachers and perfect learning style. Relaxed, fun entertaining and engaging. Supplied over and above the necessary.
  • 5/5 from Vanessa Lockwood, attended Mar 2025: Mikey and Leila are wonderful and exceptionally generous teachers! Our class had 4 participants so we received lots of guidance which was great. We learnt how to make and feed our own starter, how to shape and proof sourdough and made some delicious sourdough scones. We've also had additional guidance after the conclusion of the class with Mikey and Leila checking in to see how our loaves baked at home and how feeding our starters is going. I would highly recommend this class to anyone with an interest in bread! p.s. This class is run out of their lovely home - I would recommend driving given the large amount of things you will be taking home with you (any leftovers from lunch, your sourdough in banneton, enough flour to feed you starter for the next few days etc) but if you need to take public transport like I did then it's easily accessible via the metro and a short bus ride from Rouse Hill station :)
  • 5/5 from Juliana Milton, attended Mar 2025: I had an amazing experience at Hills Sourdough Club! I received a gift card for Christmas, and the booking process was very easy. Leila and Mike were so friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home in their beautiful space. The class was so much fun, and since we were a small group, it felt very private and personal. Their teaching style was fantastic — patient, clear, and step-by-step, ensuring we understood every part of the process. They provided everything we needed to get started, from preparing our first dough to creating a sourdough starter from scratch, including the main tools. We also received a detailed written step-by-step guide, which made it even easier to follow along at home. Plus, as an unexpected bonus, we got to learn how to make sourdough scones, such a delicious treat! On top of that, they spoiled us with homemade goodies throughout the class. Thanks to their expert guidance, my bread turned out perfect. I highly recommend this class to anyone interested in sourdough baking!
  • 4/5 from Thuy Khanh Trinh, attended Mar 2025: Good and friendly tutor and his wife. Love morning tea and lunch food there. Have a good time to meet new people and talk.
  • 5/5 from Holly Peasland, attended Jan 2025: A huge thank you to Leila and Mikey for such an incredible class! Your expert knowledge and hands-on guidance have truly boosted my confidence in sourdough baking. The take-home kit was thoughtfully prepared with everything I needed to get started, and your attention to detail and warm hospitality made the experience even more enjoyable. The sourdough scones at morning tea and the grazing board for lunch were absolutely delicious. My first loaf turned out perfectly, and my starter is thriving—doubling in size already! I also really appreciate the after-class support you offer. I can’t recommend this class enough!

  • 5/5 from David Baker, attended Sep 2024: Had a great time with Leila & Mikey learning about all things sour dough. The smaller group size (there were 6 of us) meant that we had loads of hands-on practice and able to get plenty of tips. Our hosts made it a wonderful experience with plenty of coffee and food throughout the day. Thanks again and looking forward to baking for family & friends. David

  • 5/5 from Emily Vossen, attended Aug 2024: This class was the most fun I've ever had while learning a new skill!! The teachers were friendly, welcoming and super knowledgeable. They answered any and all of our questions with no judgement at all, even offering extra tips and tricks to make sure sourdough making fit our own unique lives instead of the other way around. The snacks they offered were all delicious and beautiful, and the whole process was so easy to understand. This class is well worth every cent!! So excited to bake my own loaves at home :)
  • 5/5 from Feliza Tunnicliffe, attended Aug 2024: This was a great class experience. Mikey and Leila were both excellent and patient teachers. It was a full hands-on baking class, and I came out of the session feeling more confident in my approach to sourdough baking. The preparation, how the materials were used and the steps involved in making our own individual doughs was a fantastic learning experience. Mikey and Leila provided a class environment which was relaxed, nurturing and open. They prepared and served a wonderful and delicious spread of choice nibbles and the morning’s freshly baked sourdough for lunch. The group also had the chance to make sourdough scones which all enjoyed at morning tea. Thank you to Leila and Mikey for sharing their positive energy and generosity. I encourage anyone who is undecided to consider signing up to this class. It is well worth it. All the best to Mikey and Leila. Great Class.

They are very knowledgeable and are passionate about sourdough baking. The 5 and a half hour masterclass guided us through the entire process of making our own Starter and Sourdough loaf. This hands on masterclass enabled us to watch and learn and then practice each step perfecting our techniques under the keen eye of our teachers before moving on to the next step in the process. Mike & Leila made us feel at home and were happy to answer all our questions. Fresh sourdough scones we helped create were enjoyed at morning tea and a freshly baked sourdough loaf was enjoyed at lunch So very glad I attended this masterclass and would recommend Mike & Leila's Sourdough class to anyone interested in making fresh sourdough bread at home.

  • 5/5 from Linda Rivera Lievanos, attended Jun 2024: This class was beyond our expectations ️ Mikey and Leila are exceptional instructors and hosts! They provided clear and easy-to-follow guidance and pampered us in their beautiful home. We’re thrilled with the results, the resources, and the ongoing support offered.
  • 5/5 from Alix-Myra Anderson, attended Jun 2024: Where to even start? This was not just a class, but an experience! Small class size led to prime one-on-one instruction with the two extremely capable masters of their craft who not only guided us clearly through every step of the sour-dough making process but who also answered the thousand questions we students threw at them! This is not even mentioning the amazing scones and cheeseboard platter that was provided for snacks between teachings! Initially I was hesitant, I couldn’t understand why it would take around six hours to ‘just make bread’, but I soon learned it was more than that! I was absolutely blown away by the whole day! I had some quality and fun daughter-mum time, but I could easily see this work for a small and cute hens outing, or for couples to bond over a new skill… and bread! ️ Massive shout out to Laila and Michael, they both made this course and our time with them a dough-to-remember!!!
