Speed Portrait Painting Acrylic / Pen-ink

A series of workshops that will help you to improve a minimalist, speed sketch yet strong resemblance of portraits. This technique masters the key realistic characteristics. Learn to capture the key features, impression and inner essence of your subject, yet hone in the beauty that is there. Whether, that beauty is of the glamour type or just one that is interesting and fun, the aim is to accentuate these features. Francesco Artist will take you step by step to guide you as your learn the insight and techniques to master these skillsets. You’ll start with only pencil and paper, in order to learn the fundamentals of drawing and portraiture. Then take the next step as Francesco shares tips on pen and line techniques to create the best feel on the page of the subject. The third step is to add minimal amounts of paint to highlight the best features.
This course focuses on mapping out the portrait. Thus, you’ll be aware of what determining shape of the head and locating the features to notice and how to represent them on the page. Furthermore, you’ll identify the absolute darkest and absolute lightest areas of the drawings as means to better use that in to bring out the best features in your subject.
These sequential methods used for drawing work for drawing any aspect of drawing subject matter – not just portraits.
Within these workshops you’ll practice techniques to enable a better means to use measuring and sighting to give you a good understanding of the proportions of your subject, thus helping you identify and solve problems.

You’ll also become familiar with usage of “squinting” as means to understand the value and relationships that are on your subject and in your drawing.
Practice ways to capture subtle curvature in a manner that is easy yet maintains accuracy. Through these workshops you’ll also master how to draw natural-looking facial features through understanding the major structural characteristics of the eyes, ears, nose and mouth. Equally important to all aspects of shading and sketching is to be aware of how to use value it’s progressions to capture the effect of the light, which allows a portrait to appear 3-dimensional. This workshop will also allow you to better understand the structure of a face in term of shapes, planes change, and value by using lines and value rendering. Thus, through implementing these you’ll master the techniques of expressive portraiture via speed sketch techniques.

No knowledge needed/some basic experience is also ok.
  You need to bring A2 paper, preferably something used with watercolour usage. 3 Paint brushes, preferably one with pointed tip and the other two size around 10 and 20 if possible. Otherwise a paintbrush mixed size pack will suffice.
B2 pencil, Eraser, Ink pen black, acrylic paint, black, white, red, yellow and blue. Small amounts of each will suffice 250g tubes per colour or something similar.

This class series runs over 4 consecutive sessions, at the same time every week.
