FAQ

Where can I do a succulent terrarium workshop in Sydney?
Merchant & Green at 686 Bourke Street, Redfern offers Sydney's most established succulent terrarium workshop, running regularly from their boutique florist studio with over 10 years of teaching experience. The one-hour class guides complete beginners through creating a sculptural open succulent landscape — choosing from one, two or three premium succulents arranged in a glass vessel with decorative stones and moss. Priced from $85pp with three plant options at checkout, public classes accommodate up to 8 guests with private corporate bookings available for groups of 8–30.
What is the difference between a succulent terrarium and a greenhouse terrarium?
A succulent terrarium is an open glass vessel containing drought-tolerant succulent plants arranged in a decorative landscape of soil, stones and moss — low maintenance, architectural and long-lasting, requiring only occasional watering. A greenhouse terrarium is a closed glass container that creates a self-sustaining sealed ecosystem, using tropical plants and moss that thrive in the humid environment with almost no watering at all. At Merchant & Green in Redfern, both formats are available as separate workshops — the Succulent Terrarium Workshop starts from $85pp and the Greenhouse Terrarium Workshop starts from $115pp, with the greenhouse version available in three sizes.
How many succulents can I make in a succulent terrarium workshop?
At Merchant & Green's Succulent Terrarium Workshop in Redfern, students choose their plant count at checkout — one succulent ($85), two succulents ($110) or three succulents ($130). All three options use the same glass vessel, premium materials, expert florist guidance and herbal tea on arrival. The Double Plant option is the most popular — two contrasting succulents styled together for visual balance. The Triple Plant option creates a layered desert landscape and is the most impressive take-home. All arrangements are completed in one hour and packaged safely to carry home.

The whole journey from the welcome to the introduction, the education and the hands on step by step instructions was a symphony of fun, camaraderie and finally pride in the Terrarium that I had created and could take home with pride. Thank you guys. The best gift I received from my daughter and the best experience ever.

We spent a little time as a group learning about terrarium eco systems before getting creative with our own. The florists who ran the activity were very welcoming and knowledgeable and it was a good space for the activity. It's nice to take something away and display at home that you have created yourself.

  • 2/5 from Thanh Le, attended Feb 2026: I told everyone in the class I wanted create a terrarium for my desk so I wanted to be meticulous with everything because I wanted something beautiful to look at every day. With that goal in mind, I felt pretty rushed through the class - there wasn't enough time for me to think things through and make the best choices. Additionally, they were very stingy with the plants that we can choose. I was slow executing the instructions and was left with some pretty stale looking plants to choose from after everyone else has already chosen theirs. Then when I asked for more, the teacher just said the stale looking plants will be fine so I had to settle. Other than that, teacher himself was pleasant and helpful enough and answered all the questions people had. Overall, not recommended for someone like me who wanted to be meticulous. It's more for people who want to chill and make something different (which is probably most people).
