Module 8: Fall Prevention – Standing Balance, Core Stability & Lower Body Strength
Welcome to Module 8: Fall Prevention, a practical standing yoga session designed to improve balance, strengthen your body, and help you stay confident, active, and independent.
Falls are one of the leading causes of injury for older Australians, and even a minor fall can affect confidence, mobility, and quality of life. Many people begin to limit their daily activities after experiencing a fall—or simply from the fear of falling. This reduction in activity can gradually weaken muscles, reduce balance, and increase the risk of future falls. Fortunately, regular balance and strength training is one of the most effective ways to help reduce this risk.
This module focuses on the key physical abilities that support safe, confident movement in everyday life. Through gentle standing exercises, you'll strengthen the muscles of your legs, hips, ankles, and core while improving posture, stability, coordination, and body awareness. Every exercise is designed to support functional movement and can be performed using a sturdy chair for additional support whenever needed.
Regular practice may help you:
  • Improve standing balance and postural stability.
  • Strengthen your core, legs, hips, and ankles.
  • Reduce the risk of slips, trips, and falls.
  • Increase confidence while walking and moving around your home and community.
  • Improve coordination, mobility, and reaction time.
  • Make everyday activities such as climbing stairs, shopping, gardening, and getting in and out of a chair feel easier.
  • Support healthy ageing, independence, and long-term mobility.
  • Build confidence to stay active and engaged in the activities you enjoy.
One of the biggest consequences of falling is often not the injury itself, but the loss of confidence that follows. Feeling worried about falling again may lead people to become less active, which can further reduce strength and balance. This program is designed to help break that cycle by gradually building physical confidence in a safe and supportive way.
Remember to move at your own pace, listen to your body, and use a chair or other stable support whenever required. Progress happens gradually, and every session helps build the strength and confidence needed for safer movement.
By the end of this module, you'll feel stronger, steadier, and more confident in your ability to move safely through everyday life—supporting your independence, wellbeing, and freedom to keep doing the things you love.

My yogi way started in childhood when I asked myself about death. It was so evident that I can't be dead; I am something more than this physical body, beyond the five organs of sensation. I started exploring who I am...
It is an interesting and deep way with a lot of spiritual experiences. I meditated a lot, more than 5-6 hours during the day and many years one after another to find answers to my questions. And once, when I came back to the physical body after a long meditation, two main thoughts came into my mind: "There is no mind over there, " and "People are suffering from the mind."
Later, I met my spiritual teachers. I came to India to learn yoga, where the science of Yoga was born. It's impossible to understand Yoga without learning the Indian culture because Yoga and India are the same!
Western people know yoga as physical training. But it's anything but not yoga.
Yoga is a deep spiritual science expanding the perception of consciousness from simple human to cosmic divine! Yoga is a way and a fruit. Yoga is mystical knowledge.
I never stop learning yoga. Yoga is being called a state of unity and the way to achieve this state.
I have more than 10 years of practicing Ashtanga yoga, not fitness. Ashtanga means 8 parts. Modern Ashtanga yoga is fitness and does not have something similar to the true meaning of Ashtanga Yoga of Patanjali.
The 8 parts include: Yoga philosophy for increasing the level of consciousness, Asanas for the physical body, Pranayamas for purifying the prana (prana means vital energy), Pratyahara (bringing the five organs of sensation inside), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (holding the object of meditation for a long time), Samadhi (beyond the words, being in superconsciousness).
All this is not easy and needs a serious guru. From my side, I am trying to help people not forget the true meaning of yoga and probably encourage someone to do yoga as a Sadhana (spiritual practice), not as a fitness routine.
