Slow Stitch Workshop with Izumi Sew a Little Fruit

Make a custom doorstop or paperweight! Sewing sustainability, one stitch at a time.

3 hours Class size 1 to 10 guests

  $60 (Afterpay available)

This session invites participants to hand-sew a soft, fruit-shaped item—such as a pear or apple—that can function as a doorstop, paperweight, pincushion, or home decor. We'll use Reverse Garbage's scrap fabrics, scrap leather, upcycled stuffing, and a small weight to make it both beautiful and functional.
The workshop is designed for adults, but young people aged 12 and over are welcome to join if they’re comfortable with hand sewing. We ask that the child is accompanied by an adult participant.
About the Facilitator:
Izumi Montgomery is a Japanese artist and sustainable craft facilitator based in Sydney. She holds a Master’s in Sculpture from Tokyo University of the Arts and studied fashion at TAFE NSW, where she developed a strong interest in ethical and upcycled design. Izumi combines traditional Japanese techniques—such as *Tsumami Zaiku* (folded fabric flowers)—with reclaimed materials to create thoughtful workshops. Alongside teaching, she also creates one-of-a-kind upcycled garments and accessories from donated fabric. She regularly facilitates sessions at Reverse Garbage and other community spaces, where participants are invited to slow down and reconnect through handcraft.
