Kids' Cake Decorating Party and Workshop

Two and a half hours of decorating, and you do none of the cleaning up.

7 to 18 years     2.5 hours Class size 6 to 12 guests       $120 (PayPal Pay in 4 available)

A hands-on cake decorating party in our Rozelle studio, run by Emma and the team. The kids do the piping, the fondant, and the decorating. We do the mess.
Everyone gets an apron, a set of tools, and a bench spot. They start with buttercream, move on to fondant shapes, and finish by boxing up six cupcakes each to take home. No experience needed and nobody gets left behind.
What is included:
  • 2.5 hours, fully supervised
  • All aprons, tools, and ingredients
  • Light refreshments and drinks
  • Six decorated cupcakes each, boxed to take home, so no party bags needed
Activities are pitched to the group, and six is our minimum. That is small enough that every child gets real time with Emma.
Emma has been making cakes in Sydney since 2011 and runs the studio at 689 Darling Street. She has done space explorers, enchanted forests, and plenty in between. Tell us the theme and we will build the party around it.
Dietary requirements: We can make cupcakes vegan, dairy-free, or gluten-free on request, just tell us when you book. We cannot guarantee no traces, as our kitchen handles eggs, dairy, nuts, and gluten, so we cannot cater to severe or anaphylactic allergies.

I'm Emma Townsend, and I have been making cakes in Sydney's inner west since 2011.
It started with second place. Annandale North Public School ran a cake competition, I came second, and I was just annoyed enough to go and learn how to do it properly. I already had years in food behind me, starting out in my parents' cafe, so I booked a cake decorating course on a whim. That turned into cakes for friends, then competition work, then someone handing me money for a birthday cake. Fifteen years and a few thousand celebrations later, here we are.
For most of that time I worked out of my home kitchen. In 2024 I moved into a proper studio at 689 Darling Street in Rozelle, hired my first employee, and put my name on the window. To say I had a huge amount of anxiety would be an understatement! It is still the best decision I have made.
These days I am probably best known for two things: custom cakes for kids, and a Christmas cake that has converted a lot of committed pudding people.
Teaching is the part I did not expect to love as much as I do. I run my masterclasses for eight people at a time, in the studio, with a glass of bubbly going. You make Swiss meringue buttercream from scratch, stack and fill a three layer cake, and learn the vintage Lambeth piping that keeps turning up on wedding cakes. Then you take the whole thing home and eat it, which I think beats a paint and sip canvas.
No experience needed. Genuinely. Most people arrive convinced they don't have steady hands, and most people leave holding something they are quietly proud of. That moment is why I keep running them.
I want to develop people, not just teach them a technique. Come and make a mess with us.
