  $60 (Afterpay available)

In this gentle hand-sewing workshop, participants will make 1–2 reusable underwear liners using soft, breathable fabrics such as cotton flannel or gauze – gentle on the skin.
Part of the Slow Stitch WS Series with Izumi, this session encourages mindful making, sustainable choices and body-friendly design.
Held in connection with Women’s Health Week, you will also receive a reusable pattern to take home and continue making at your own pace.
Young participants are very welcome if they enjoy hand sewing and feel comfortable focusing for the full session. An adult guardian is not required, but they are welcome to stay nearby if the participant would feel more at ease with support.
About the Facilitator:
Izumi Montgomery is a Japanese artist and sustainable craft facilitator based in Sydney. She holds a Master’s in Sculpture from Tokyo University of the Arts and studied fashion at TAFE NSW, where she developed a strong interest in ethical and upcycled design. Izumi combines traditional Japanese techniques—such as Tsumami Zaiku (folded fabric flowers)—with reclaimed materials to create thoughtful workshops. Alongside teaching, she also creates one-of-a-kind upcycled garments and accessories from donated fabric. She regularly facilitates sessions at Reverse Garbage and other community spaces, where participants are invited to slow down and reconnect through handcraft.
