For years I answered this question with the words “I am Roki’s mum” and lost track of who I really am as the ebb and flow of raising a child with a severe brain injury swallowed me whole and dissolved the old me. I am no longer who I used to be, I think differently, I do differently and I look at life in a whole new way.
For some time now I have been preparing for this next part of my journey, without knowing and without realising it. I always thought my role and purpose in this life is to fix Roki, to use every living breath I have left to give him the best chance of a good life under the circumstances of his brain injury.
As the lessons, gifts and knowledge grew within me there came with it an urge, to share this, to help others with this. It was convenient for me to hide behind the fact that I am busy, raising Roki plus his two sisters Ruby and Rosie, as well as keeping the household running in partnership with Dave, we make a good team, but we are busy and it never ends.
I kept telling myself that the time would come, but the urge would not subside, and the more I pushed it back the stronger my visions of teaching and helping, sharing and healing became. Finally, holding this in began to show in my physical body, I knew the cause as I have grown used to reading signs in the body as soul lessons that need to be learnt.
And so, finally I stand on the threshold of being Roki’s mum and crossing over to become who I came here to be, a healer, a teacher, but most of all walking my own heart home with my boy Roki who took on a life of daily pain and challenges so that I can finally remember who I really am, after many lives of not allowing myself to be seen.
Roki came disabled so that I could be enabled. And so, I stand before you all, vulnerable but ready, ready to take on the beautiful honour to help those who feel the call to take the journey of learning how to heal yourself, how to walk your own heart home. I do this for the highest good of all and in service of all humanity, Mother Earth and the Universe.
I grew up crafting on a farm in South Africa, my beautiful mum taught me how to make almost anything, and so I use those skills in everything I do. I love to do herbal tea workshops and teach people about plants that grow in my garden and how they hold space for us. I make the most amazing yoga bolsters and meditation cushions from recycled blankets and fill them with unwanted clothing and linen. I love doing that! I can't wait to share my craftings with you, I often have womens gatherings and we do all sorts of things with our hands and hearts together :)
From my heart to yours
May the journey unfold
