Queer Zine Making Workshop

All of the materials needed to create a small personal zine!

3 hours Class size 1 to 20 guests       $15

Interested in zine making? A seasoned zinester who wants to meet some new people and connect to community through making? This is for you.
Guided by zine maker and researcher Corey Lange, you will be provided with some prompts to help you kickstart some zine making; asking you to make a zine from a specific material, using a particular technique or surrounding a particular idea or theme. From there, you've got the freedom to interpret this prompt however you want, at your own pace, making your very own zine!
You do not need to have any experience. If you do have experience, you are welcome to put that to use in the workshop.
This workshop is focused on creating a space to make and connect to queer community. In this context, the definition of ‘Queer’ has been pulled from American trans, queer and feminist academic and author Jack Halberstam who posits queer as “non-normative logics and organisations of community, sexual identity, embodiment, and activity in space and time”. If you align with this definition you are welcome.
Workshop is suitable for ages 16+
About the Facilitator
Corey is a queer, non-binary artist and designer creating on Gadigal Land. They work mostly in print media and zine making. Most of their work revolves around queerness, gender and often little ghosts. They have had work exhibited from community art shows to the State Library and sold at numerous fairs and markets. Alongside their art and design practise, they are passionate about running workshops in zine making, an interest they are currently exploring through a PhD program at UTS.

  • 5/5 from Emma Woodbury, attended Jan 2026: BEAUTIFUL FUN QUEER LOVED IT great teacher so chill and nice just awesome will do again
  • 5/5 from Parish Stapleton, attended Jan 2026: I went to Corey’s zine making workshop today and absolutely loved it. I came away feeling informed, inspired and genuinely educated about the history of zines, as well as completely free to make whatever I wanted. Corey brings such clarity, warmth and a beautiful steady pace to the session. They are incredibly well informed and create an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome to explore, play and experiment. I made a simple folded zine using old sheet music and drew over the top. It was such a gentle and enjoyable way to reconnect with my creative instincts. The group itself was really lovely, inclusive and kind. People shared openly, supported one another, and the whole room felt generous and safe. I would recommend this workshop to anyone in the queer community, whether you are brand new to zines or have years of experience. If you want to learn, play, connect and discover zine making in a fresh way, this is a beautiful place to start.

  • 5/5 from Zephyr Hopping, attended Oct 2025: Corey ran a Halloween-themed zine making workshop and it was AMAZING. They started with a brief history of zines, and had so many examples we could use as inspiration in our own zines. There were so many resources supplied, and the vibes in the room were incredible. Never had so much fun in a workshop before
  • 5/5 from Fiona Gwendolyn Cobain, attended Oct 2025: It was really wonderful being surrounded by creative people. I learnt so much from Corey about the history of zines. Would love to do another!
