I have learn't about some wood carving tools, working with the grain of various types of wood, safety in utilising these tools and had a lot of fun. Darren explained techniques and the steps involved thoroughly and at a steady manageable pace. Darren was very patient, obliging and tailored his teaching methods specifically to the students needs. The venue was easy to access and set up appropriately for the workshop that was taught. The aspects of the course I liked the most included: the skills taught, the tools available, the layout of the venue, the teaching methods conducted by the Darren and the class mates -> everyone got along really well and had good banter/laughs.

The instructors were able to give a lot of info on what types of wood and tools would be good for beginners and places to find them. The instructors gave great direction on wood carving technique, were able to provide feedback and tips and answer questions. The process of carving the spoon was well structured, got to use different tools and techniques at different stages, were also provided with a written guide, the instructors were easily available and made sure everyone was progressing well. It felt good having a finished product to take home. What I enjoyed most was having a starting off point to start wood carving, knowing what wood and tools to get and getting an understanding of carving wood.

Most impressed by the first rate seasoned blanks to choose from, Huon, silkyoak, sassafras and Himalayan cedar … didn’t expect that! Well done thanks Lance
