Not at all. WHODUNIT is designed for everyone, whether you love performing or would rather keep things low-key. You’ll be given everything you need to play your character, and how far you lean into it is completely up to you.
Q: What is the minimum group size?
WHODUNIT is designed for private groups of 8–20 people, and a minimum of 8 guests is required for the mystery to work properly.
Q: How are the characters allocated?
After booking, the booking contact receives a character list based on the group size. They choose who will play each character and send us the participants’ names and phone numbers. We then send each guest their full character briefing directly, so everyone’s secrets stay secret.
Q: Will the murderer know they’re the murderer?
No. Nobody — including the murderer or the person who made the booking — knows who the killer is at the start. The murderer finds out privately during the event, as the story unfolds.
Q: How do I choose a date?
Send us your preferred date and time when you enquire. We have a range of weekday, evening and weekend slots available, and we’ll confirm what works for your group.
Q: Is WHODUNIT suitable for work events or private celebrations?
Both. WHODUNIT works for team events and Christmas parties, as well as birthdays, celebrations and groups of friends looking for something different to do together.
Q: Can we bring alcohol?
Yes. The Place is BYO, so you’re welcome to bring your own drinks, including alcohol, for your private event.

We're Kala Ellis and Nick Gell, the founders of The Place - a creative studio in Lewisham, Sydney, and home to WHODUNIT @ THE PLACE, our fully hosted, live murder mystery experience for private groups.Nick is a NIDA-trained actor, performer, musician and professional MC who has worked across stage and television for more than two decades. He regularly hosts live events for Inner West Council and creative arts organisations around Australia, and has taught drama for over a decade, including at NIDA Open. Kala is an AWGIE Award-winning screenwriter and producer whose credits include creating and writing comedy series Spreadsheet (Channel 4 UK), writing Austin (ABC/BBC), and producing factual television at Northern Pictures.Between us, we've spent our careers writing, producing, performing and entertaining audiences. WHODUNIT grew out of wanting to combine the things we know best - storytelling, performance and bringing a room of people together - into something genuinely fun and social.We create every mystery from scratch, with original characters, plots, secrets, physical clues and puzzles.
