Please note if you book a course that runs over end of year holidays, we will have to move some of your classes a few weeks back to January, to allow you and us some rest for holidays. We will be closed Dec 23 to Jan 5th 2026.
Looking to unleash your creativity and get hands-on with clay? Look no further than our wheel throwing class in Sydney. In this 8-week workshop, you'll learn the art of pottery making on the wheel. Each class, held weekly for 2 hours, will start with a demonstration, followed by guided practice. We'll begin with the basics—throwing, trimming, and glazing—before moving on to more advanced techniques like creating handles and lids. By the end of the course, you'll have mastered the art of making beautiful pottery.
Don't worry if you're a beginner; our classes are designed for all skill levels. With small class sizes, you'll receive individual attention and feedback from our experienced teachers. They'll walk you through each step, ensuring you have a solid foundation in pottery making. Plus, our warm and uplifting atmosphere will alleviate any fears you may have.
During the workshop, you'll get the chance to create a variety of pottery pieces. From bowls and plates to mugs and cups, your imagination is the only limit. You can even make stationary holders, planters, or food bowls for your furry friends. And rest assured, the finished pottery you make is yours to keep.
* Silky Shapes Studio is a female owned, independent pottery studio listed on ClassBento’s online marketplace. We have been in business of making pottery for 18 years, have knowledgable and experienced instructors to guide you along your pottery journey.

Recent reviews of 8 Week Beginners Wheel Throwing Course

  • 5/5 from Roslyn Liao, attended Nov 2025: I really enjoyed the 8 week pottery course! I appreciated having the time and freedom to practice without feeling limited by materials/amount of clay used, which made it easy to start again if something didn't work out. Yegana was a clear and supportive teacher and shared helpful techniques that I will use in future sessions. The course covered the basics well, though for more specific guidance such as glazing effects, I found I needed to ask questions to get more detailed input. Overall, it provides a great foundation for continuing pottery.
  • 5/5 from Anastasia May, attended Aug 2025: Excellent teaching on how to throw on the wheel, trim and glaze. I've made 10 pieces to take home with me after the 8 sessions. I'd highly recommend this course.
  • 5/5 from Vicci Ormandy, attended Jan 2025: Great class!!
