Paint Watercolour Landscapes for All Skill Levels

1.5 hours Class size 1 to 6 guests

$60 - $75 ($75 per guest when you book for 1+ guests, $60/guest for 6 guests) (Afterpay & PayPal Pay in 4 available)

In this relaxed, single-session online workshop, I'll show you that watercolour is far more approachable than its reputation suggests. Together we'll paint a landscape from start to finish. You'll learn how to mix and layer washes, work wet-on-wet to create natural blends, and use the medium's beautiful unpredictability to your advantage rather than fighting it. Whether you've never picked up a brush or you've dabbled before and want to build more confidence, this session is designed for you. I'll guide you through every step at a comfortable pace — no prior experience needed, no pressure to be perfect.
You'll walk away with:
  • A completed landscape painting you're proud of
  • Core watercolour techniques you can keep practising at home
What You'll Need: All materials listed below are suggestions to get you started — feel free to use your own preferred brands, colours, or tools. There are no strict rules here!
Paper: Watercolour paper, 300 gsm (cold press/rough texture works well for landscapes)
Paints: Winsor & Newton Cotman watercolour pan set (a basic travel or half-pan set is perfectly fine)
Brushes: Round brushes in sizes 2, 6, and 8 — synthetic bristles work beautifully for beginners and are a great starting point
Other basics:
  • Two jars of water (one for rinsing, one clean for mixing)
  • A palette or ceramic plate for mixing colours
  • Masking tape or clips to hold your paper flat
  • Paper towel or a cloth rag
These are indicative materials only. If you already own watercolour supplies, bring what you have — half the fun of watercolour is getting to know your own tools!
Come as you are — we'll figure out the rest together.

Hi, I'm Chirag — a watercolour artist and Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney, where I teach and mentor graduate students in smart buildings.
Amid the rigour of academia, watercolour is my creative sanctuary.
I love the fluidity, spontaneity — every painting feels alive and impossible to fully control, which is part of the magic. For me, painting is more than a hobby — it's how I stay curious, and reconnect with the joy of making. Research increasingly backs what artists have always known: creative practice is one of the most powerful tools we have for mental wellbeing.
In my workshops, I bring the same clarity and patience I use in the classroom — breaking down an intimidating medium into something approachable and genuinely enjoyable. Whether you're a complete beginner or returning to a brush after years away, I hope to help you enjoy the beautiful unpredictability of watercolour painting.
