Our native French-speaking tutors are here to provide you with a sound foundation for the basics of French. They understand the challenges that come with learning a new language, how to overcome them, and succeed.
From your very first class, you'll start using practical, everyday French. Through interactive lessons and guided conversation, you'll learn to introduce yourself, ask simple questions, and understand common expressions while steadily building your vocabulary, pronunciation and confidence.
By the end of this course, you will have a sound understanding of the basics of the French language. You will be able to speak, read, and write in simple French sentences. Basic grammar is also covered in this French beginner's course to equip you to have simple conversations.

Topics such as:
  • Greetings and introducing oneself
  • Formality/Informality
  • Countries and nationalities
  • Providing and asking for personal Information
  • Ask and respond to simple questions
  • Numbers and alphabet
  • Basic communication in everyday social and travel situations.
Grammar concepts may include:
  • Definite and indefinite articles
  • Possessive adjectives
  • Descriptive language (adjectives)
  • Key verbs such as s’appeler, être and avoir (affirmative and negative forms)
  • Gender (masculine and feminine) and number (singular and plural)
By the end of this Beginner French course, participants will have developed practical skills and knowledge in areas such as:
  • Introducing yourself and others using basic French structures
  • Using the French alphabet to spell names and simple words
  • Understanding when to use formal and informal language (tu and vous)
  • Greeting people appropriately in everyday situations
  • Asking and answering simple questions
  • Giving and requesting basic personal information
  • Counting from 0 to 100 and using numbers in context
  • Participating in simple conversations in French
  • Using basic French confidently while travelling or in everyday situations.
All students must be over 18 years of age.
Knowledge required
This course is for absolute beginners with no previous experience in learning French.

Juan Carlos Barreno


Juan grew up speaking Spanish and French and has spent his life between Europe and South America. He has a Master of Science from the University of Hohenheim, Germany, and has recently completed a Master of Applied Linguistics at the University of New England, Australia. 

In parallel to his career in science, he has been involved in teaching Spanish and French throughout life. In 2011 he moved to Australia and has worked as a language tutor for the University of Sydney, Macquarie University and WEA. 

Juan is passionate about languages. In addition to Spanish and French, he speaks English, German, Italian and Portuguese. He is also a writer of poetry with one published book and another on the way.
